Hi i give info.
On the moment, prototype working fine with CPC 6128 as externial device. Becouse prototype was kynar made ;D i order few Prototype PCB for final testing.

If you don't need 4MB, you can also go for brandnew Z-MEM which provides 1MB.

Reality hurts sometimes. Just check out all the frustrated JustCPC customers who spent their hard earned money on his device and then sent endless e-mails and PMs asking simple questions and they were completely ignored. We have several threads here relating to it.
Shiny new products don't make us forget.

Oh, I don't know, perhaps because we're not fond of people who have caused immeasurable trouble on our forum to advertise their own little corner...
Please, no more of this in this thread.
Well, Just CPC in version " board for self assembly " was for people with advanced soldering and electronic skills, not for cowboys who have only soldering iron, and nothing else. For people without skills i offer also more expensive but assembled ,tested and running boards . It is not my fault if somebody overestimate own skills i think ?
If i correct remember, you, Bryce, try fit too big resistors in to the board ? Also i remember big shitstorm start here about me so i just leave and support my customers via email and SMR contact page.
I made also my own board for ZX Spectrum and i never refuse to help if customer give me clear info where is problem. I repair boards for free and help how much i can . Also, if somebody have problem with Just CPC, i always can help. Give me info on mail and i know .
Anyway, as i say before, i just give info about 4 mb ram expansion. Nothing else. I'm really to old and to busy for waste time for fight with some sad people.

Firstly, to my qualifications: I have a degree in Physics and I have worked in the electronics industry for over 25 years, designing and manufacturing commercial and research electronics. I've worked in research labs soldering up boards, right up to commercial mass-production planning, so I wouldn't consider myself a beginner by any means.
To your support: I and others sent multiple e-mails to you asking about the JustCPC, both on a schematic level, but also simple requests such as the pinout and function of the non-labelled headers on the PCB. Due to the fact that you released 5+ versions of the PCB which the end user couldn't tell apart and you didn't inform the buyers which version they actually received. You logged on here here regularly, and still didn't answer the PMs you had received, so you can't claim that you did see them.
To your hardware: I have repaired multiple JustCPCs (sold as built and tested) for users here, the main issue being under-dimensioned traces on the PCB, in particular the ground traces around the monitor socket. You may be offering free repairs, but obviously you haven't made this offer obvious, otherwise the users wouldn't be coming to me.
But don't get me wrong, I more than anyone appreciate every person who brings new hardware to the CPC scene, but I (we) expect a certain level of quality, support and transparency and I'm not convinced that you have shown that. I don't like it when people put half baked hardware on offer and then don't support the hardware when the user has issues. I brought up several technical issues with you regarding the JustCPC via PM and you ignored every one of them.
If you want a list of the issues with the JustCPC, I would be glad to assist, but I expect an answer this time.
Bryce.
Hmm.
1 . Hmm,
2. Just CPC was made as commercial board and i always give info , schematic is not aviable, becouse is based on 6128 schematic what is on CPC wiki. And yes i log here sometimes (do you tracking my activity? I think is littlebit sick?)
3. About repair, i sell my boards via SMR where is option contact seller, nobody report me problems?
4.Don't get me wrong but i always support my hardware, but not like this? To be honest, Bryce, CPC hardware is not only you and your point of wiew ;)

My view is just one of many, but there were several technical aspects of the JustCPC that could have been implemented better.
As I said, I think any and all new CPC hardware is a good thing, so I'll say no more and wish you the best of luck with this project. I'll also most likely order one as I did with the JustCPC.

Unfortunately @Bryce (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=225) is totally right here, you disappeared from here (where all the people that bought your board was), leaving a LOT of people without support, a LOT of people asking things.
I really thought that you just sold this boards (that need to be patched if i remember correctly), took the money and just run away.
AND i paid for 4 boards and only received 3 (as i told you by PM on 24/07/15), leaving 1 board in limbo (and my money too)
sorry if i sound rude, but as i said Bryce thinks the same than me (and a lot of people)

Really we can spect good quality without a company behind?. All new things in hardware are made in house, so in one form or another they have unexpected fails.
Mother x4 connector destroy the pins of addon boards connectors, because they not fitt togeder well. So thet pins swap out.
The first m4 have problems with power in determinated circustances.
Even the case hxc can destroy your wire power floppy connector, because is inside to much, so you have unplug it take the wire.
I think at certain point its normal not search perfect quality.
Why not? That's the whole point of making and testing prototypes. This is where you find and design out the issues.
I wasn't aware of some of the issues you listed and I'm suprised by some others, for example:
"Mother x4 connector destroy the pins of addon boards connectors, because they not fitt togeder well." - TotO has used the correct, matching connectors that are designed to be used together, there is no reason these should not work.
M4: Designed and advertised to work with 5V. From what I can find in the forum, the issues occurred when people used a lower voltage than recommended. This isn't a fault of the device.
Of course, hand built devices have a higher chance of having build-quality issues, but design issues shouldn't happen, whether you are a single developer or a company.
Bryce.

It happend If you not have the cpc mounted, and you are continously mount/unmount the cards. The two connector fit to hard. So you make force, and at some time the pins of the addonboard left out the connector. I have to use a screwdriver all time to put the pins back every time i use it.
And the board connector, don't have the pivot guide that have the addonboards, so is easy not fit it well.
The first m4 need use external power supply with mother x4 if i remember well. I thing that is fixed now, but that i mean is all can fail in unexpected way.
Admittedly, those connectors weren't designed for multiple plugging/unplugging, but they are the best choice there is, so this is something we just have to live with. It's not really a quality issue, nor is it TotOs fault.
Yes, but due to diodes on the Mx4 which cause a small but significant voltage drop, the cards are getting a little less than the 5V required. Not so critical for most expansions, but will cause issues with cards that contain their own LDO. I don't think this situation has changed by the way. I think people are just more aware of it now.
Bryce.

You know, I have an email (and PM) and promptly answer about my CPC expansions boards (in english, french and spanish). I'm not dead, just not here. (except now, to confirm the rule)
The cause to your problem is into your answer... You don't use them in a "normal way" and forcing is never a solution to a problem.
Because you plug/unplug many times the boards, the pins should bend a bit and are no more properly aligned to the MotherX4 female connector.
A way to fix that is to use a ribbon cable with a 50 pin female connector with key (not whisky) and plug/unplug some times to straighten the board pins... (your welcome)
I had noticed the same problem myself, but it didn't register as a design fault. I've seen tight connectors before, so I'm just extra careful.
Back to the 4 MB RAM expansion...
Does is work in the way of addressing 8x 512 KB (each 512 KB block using &7Fxx, &7Exx... &78xx) or is it a different design?
How much will one card cost approximately?
Is it compatible to CP/M Plus?

Come on Bryce. I read your threads and posts and they are usually very good. I have not 'yet' bought any hardware from you and who knows one day it could be if you make some for sale. Piotr I have bought and so far also had service above and beyond what was expected - he even sent me replacement parts that I ordered incorrectly myself at his expense. I cannot say many people do that and for that reason I would more than gladly buy from Piotr again. Why does every hardware person who makes an awesome piece of hardware not up to highest level on the 'Bryce Scale' (pun intended) get bad flack from you? Yes, every company no matter who that makes products has a certain percentage faulty, every company no matter who that makes or sells products/servers has some customers with bad experience... Do you know how many dozens, hundreds, thousands of hardware that Piotr has sold to make a judgement that he offers a bad product / service overall? I can't make that judgement other than so far what I have bought and the service I have gotten... First class both!
Post more info on the 4mb expansion please... does it have the hardware conflict and can it work in one MX4 slot in the JustCPC128k?

Well, if you ask me (you didn't but anyhow :D ) basically all you can say is that you had good service from him. Good for you, really. But Bryce never speaks without evidence and he's been exhaustive in his research and analysis (if you'll recall...). And of course, he's not against everyone making something - in fact he's not against anyone; but when trouble appears, I think he's doing a service to the community to draw our attention to it.
Actually, my latest purchase from him was today. I have purchased about 7 or 8 items from him so far without issues from sellmyretro. And of course a couple of dozen items from CentPourCent before he was blasted away... sadly. In addition to buying most 6128 Pluses I could get my hands on from ebay.uk... but that's another story as my developers needed machines to work on. I have 3 gfx cards waiting to arrive too, hope they do. Several M4 boards etc... All I can say, is all who I have bought from including Piotr has given me fantastic service NO EXCEPTION.
And, as I said, good for you.

Abandonware is just an opinion of many... it isn't a law... in fact the law here in Australia, and many other countries in the World there is no releasing of copyright due to software (or any other media) being abandoned. I was stating a fact that cpcwiki condones piracy - I don't think anyone here can deny it. Piracy is piracy. For the record, I choose to buy my software because I like the shiny packaging it comes with. I couldn't give a **** about a company losing revenue because someone else pirates their software... follow the laws of the land and all will be sweet. Just because I don't give a **** about companies revenue doesn't mean I don't buy products - in fact the opposite, if they make a product I want or like... I will buy it if I can afford it, and usually live without if I cannot. Simple.

Sad indeed...
In meantime , 512 ram expansion for 464 is ready, is via thru, here, https://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/29065 .
That's great news and I see they get sold quick. :) Now I'm just waiting for the 4 MB RAM expansion. :)
One question: Is it possible to make the 4 MB RAM expansion with Centronics-Sockets? Since my 6128 has a centronics plug for the expansion port it would be great to have Centronics IN and OUT (I mean thru). Also they fit for the 6128 Plus and 464 Plus. :) :) :)
4 MB via thru is in PCB factory. Release in january. Sorry guys i also need break.
About Centronics, i can redesign my boards for centronics sockets . P roblem is with connectors, i have source but one socket cost is 10 euro...
Yes, they are expensive, maybe just sell them without sockets. I wouldn't mind either ways. Enjoy your christmas. Looking forward to a great 2018 with 4 MB RAM. :) :) :)

What is the issue with the Plus machines ?
I suspect the plus issue maybe the availability of the connector.
There is also the issue of using a FPGA chip which seems like that maybe timing is in issue.

I'd guess you're right on the second one. Centronics connectors aren't that hard to get.

If you do that, then people could use my 464 expansion port connector

(it is free for download)
and you would still have same fom factor as now.

This is really cool stuff, just not quite sure if I really need 4 MBs... I already have your 512 KB module.

640512kB ought to be enough for anybody. ;D

With CPC PLUS is timming issues . I do more tests when i back to Poland from vacations but on the moment, NOT WORKING WITH PLUS MACHINES. Centronics to edge (shneider) is not big problem i made adaptors. MX boards version will be in next week.
Oh, an MX-4 version too! :) That's great! However it would be great if there is a way to fix the problem with the 6128 Plus timing. (I remember there were issues with the Symbiface II too and probably other expansions).
(BTW: There are interested guys in the German forum too, I keep them updated).
Can somebody tell why there is a timing problem with the Plus machines?

Because certain signal paths are handled by the ASIC instead of discrete logic ICs which changes the timing. However, it should be possible to design the device to accept both versions.
Bryce.
It would be definitively a great achievement if this device could be compatible with Old & Plus machines...
4mb is for sale here, https://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/30373 .
Will it block sight of DDI3 display?
No, is also space for case but i print it tomorrow.

Nothing, my 464 plus was broken ;)

These are great news!!! I will definitely get the MX4 version :-) Just saving some space (my CPC's got Centronics ports). :) :) :)
Colour me interested in an MX4 version...
What software uses more than 512KB currently? Does SymbOS already support the full 4MB?

I don't think it presently supports more than 512K. I think @Prodatron (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13) is working on a version that supports 1MB though, but don't take that as gospel.
How can a 464 or 6128 actually use 4MB that is an awful lot of bank switching innit.

Great! Will get some now... :)
Just received mine, it works perfectly !
Mine arrived today - A-ha demo works great, but Batman Group demo stalls when the bats fly through the window / shatter the glass. Does Batman Demo work for people on 464 with 4 MB? It works perfectly fine with XMem, but not with my 4 MB extension. I have the non-m4x version.

464 is really difficult to get it to work reliably. Batman demo almost ran through now, but crashed in the last part of the demo... where the Tron scroller is. With mother4x motherboard I haven't succeeded yet. Maybe I need a bus driver card or the like? I have the DDI3 directly hooked up behind the 4 MB extension. That *amost* works. 464 is really not optimal in that regard. The connection is too brittle. But it seems this is not the fault of Piotr's extension - maybe the timing is a bit more critical than with XMem, which seems to be a b it more reliable. Anyways, it (almost) works with Batman.
I am using the one disk version from here:
https://files.scene.org/view/parties/2011/forever11/cpc/demo/batman_forever.zip (https://files.scene.org/view/parties/2011/forever11/cpc/demo/batman_forever.zip)
Sometimes, it crashes badly and turns on the relay of the cassette recorder....
Piotr will send me the M4X version, I will see if that works better with my 464's.

Maybe you would have been better to get the 512K Expansion you solder onto the DDI-3 - but that would limit it to the 464 and i don't know your set-up.

Would you mind running a test for me? I may be able to identify where the incompatibility lies.
4mb or 2mb or 1mb may not work on some programs because to make a 4mb expansion they use other bits in the i/o space which can clash with other hardware.

I would like to test it. Have some issues in KC Compact, on CPC6128 all fine
Hey guys, if anybody else has the CPC 464 (not m4x version), please run Batman one disk version and report if it works for you.
I will also try a bigger PSU tonight and report whether it made a difference.
Tried a different PSU with 3 A, no difference. It is a timing problem it seems.
... and now a really beefy PSU - 40 Watts.
I did a systematic testing of all my 464's, and the result is devastating.
See picture for details...
The 464's are perfectly fine - they all passed a RAMTEST.bin from XMem Flash Rom.
The PSU has 40 Watts (5 V, 8 A - stabilized!!) Certainly not a power problem ;)
I am out of ideas. All of these 5 CPCs work perfectly fine with Batman Demo with XMem.
4 MB is a complete failure on all 464's. Not a single one of the 5 464's passed.
However, ZMem situation is slightly better - 2 464's passed!
(One has a Vortex 512 KB built in though, I did not expect that to work - and of course it didn't - so it is really 2 out of 4 that passed).
So, 4 MB: 0 %, 1 MB ZMem: 40 % (50 %) passed.
I also tried to see if DDI3 - maybe in combination with the mem expansions - might be the problem.
I hence used DD1 controller with external HxC. No difference.
I also tried hooking up DDI3 directly behind the mem expansions, and over a small cable (maybe stability I was thinking).
Still no difference.
I will post the mainboard and chip details of these tomorrow.
These are the ones that work with ZMem:
they all have 40010 Gate Array.
These are the ones that DO NOT work with Zmem:
... and, none of these works with 4 MB Piotr's expansion.
Piotr instructed me to try Phortem, it loads, but one can clearly see the memory errors:
ToTO instructed me to try Phortem, Still Rising, and R-Type 128k.
First one doesn't work at all, 2nd and 3rd work nicely on the following CPC.

Ouch, this was a PSU problem again! I needed to calibrate my new PSU.
It is exactly at 5 V now. It seems that mem expansion are extremely sensitive
wrt to their voltages. After the correction,
Phortem works like a charme with Piotr's 4 MB.
Badman still not. Still Rising doesn't work either.

Hi Ray,
I am afraid I currently don't have the time to do so. I am getting another 4 MB from Piotr, and hopefully, that'll work just fine.
If not, I can try to help with hardware debugging further. For now, I would assume that I have done already more than the average
CPC 464 user can do in order to get the mem expansions running. IMHO they are not ripe for selling yet. Some further development
needs to happend first before they can be sold to "end users".
Cheers,
Michael
This 4 mb board take less from 100mA . But 5 volt not 6 ! I think LambdaMikel your board is faulty, maybe i screw up assembly, it is hand made interface. I suspend sale and i do investigation on my CPC collection yesterday and today...

Thanks for being responsive and taking care of the issue, Piotr!
Yes, but I'd like to mention that I tested a couple of PSU, one is indeed only 5 V, the other is 6 V, and also with monitor GT 64.
I don't think that I have damaged anything, because PHORTEM is indeed working with one PSU at ~ 5 V. So it seems to be a timinig
issue. But we will see. Looking forward to the M4X version of your extension,
Thank you and best regards
Michael
I also not blame you of course , as i say, it is amateur hand made interface . Maybe cold join, maybe i use wrong firmware, I'm not hide , i unpack all my CPC and i sit and test from yesterday . Also 2 expansion boards go to firmware author for check firmware for sure. So i'm working on it.
Well, more tests 464, 4MB via thru and DDI3 connected, Phortem was running 4 times, now time to Batman demo. As you see, i have lot of CPC , different models for tests.

@Piotr (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1104): Have you possibly changed any IC manufacturer or IC version between your prototype and the "production" version? Faster RAM or a different TTL type etc? That can sometimes make enough difference to mess up the timing.
Bryce.
I have timing issues with 4MB card on my buscard with busdriver(LS541).
Before LS541 all works fine, after LS541 the first bank was not found (7Fxx).
But the A-HA Video always works.
Bryce, my extension is made on typical 512x8 memory chip R1LP0408CSP-5SI i have over 1000 pieces and i use it for this extension . I change nothing, video is made from today assembled board. Production verson.
Rennert. It is ram expansion for CPC, not for clones and for bus drivers.
It works on clone (KC Compact) without errors with buscard like MX4 Board. The X-Mem 512k RAM also works behind the LS541. The 4MB generally works on my busdriver card, Eramtest show all banks, and in Future OS the first bank is missing.
My busdriver card with LS541 works on my CPC6128 and 4MB without errors.

I want that card instead of my fault one please ;D
Today I received my 4 MB RAM card from Piotr and it works like a charm. I did test it with the 6128 Plus and running FutureOS, also running "A Tribute to the Sisters" which is using RAM higher than the first 512 KB if connected. Everything is fine. Of course I will run more tests the coming days.
Congratulations to a great piece of hardware. :) :) :)
One more test of this excellent piece of work: It runs perfect with a CPC6128. In this case it was located on the AMSDAP board and there was the M4 board too. (I forgot how to switch the switches on the AMSDAP, guess the both need to be to the left. PDT told me on the meeting but I forgot). All together a wonderful hardware setup. :) :) :)
