Well, I honestly don't know if this is the best solution.

However if you guys are going to order 6128 Plus Cartridges, then I will take 100 of them, so you will get a very cheap price I hope. At the moment I must admit that I don't have much time to care about it, but my offer stands for sure. So let's get these Cart shells :-)

The problem with reprap is that the printing speed is very slow, it might be better to look at vacuum forming the cartridge cases.
I think all you need (more or less), is a wooden form and a vacuum cleaner, there are videos on youtube about DIY vacuum forming.

I've seen a Reprap in action - Here's my thoughts:

- Slow-motion doesn't even come close, you could only produce one cartridge per day.
- The surface quality is shit, so you need to do a lot of sanding and fine tuning when it comes out of the Reprap.
- Walls as thin as the cartridge would require aren't possible.
- The parts tend to be rather delicate, they wouldn't survive more than a few times being plugged in before they would break.

I am sure there must be some Chinese factory willing to make them for peanuts. Where are the C64 cartridges made that you can buy for pennies online?

I've been toying with the idea of investing in a MakerBot, if and when the price comes down a bit. Not just for cartridge cases, but for general prototyping.

Today, with internet, shapeways.com or sculpteo.com, the most difficult part is not the 3d printing itself, but to make a valid 3d model (cad) of what you want. Make an little figurine is relatively easy, but make a case that fit perfectly is another thing…

Luckily, I have access to the software and enough experience to create the models in AutoCAD or Solidworks :)

Great that sort of services now exist. :)
Depending the price, it may be interesting that both cartridge side was the same and symetric.

Then maybe I will have some questions  :D I see that and that recently and I'm planning to make a nice case for the HxC emulator. Do you thing that software like FreeCAD can do the job, or Solidworks$$$ is mandatory ?

I don't know FreeCAD, but those designs are relatively simple, so any decent CAD software should be able to manage something of that level.

The duplication of the design is not hard at all, as I've been assured by people who make such stuff.

From what I've been told by a supplier of mine, though (who has a 3D printer; as a demo he had given me his head rendered in it, used to spook the heck out of everyone coming into my office), the problem then will be that the material is not sturdy enough, especially for our use - pushing in and pulling out (oo-er).

Well, I'm still interrested in producing 100 Cartridge Shells for the Plus. So if there is a solution to do that then my 100 pieces will make it cheaper for sure. Now depends how much you guys out there would like.

Anybody joining? (And I don't even know who will be the right company for that purpose)

If you can't estimate the cost you won't get much in the way of serious answers... Sure, I'd take 20 myself, but...
