Folks, if i could pick the brains of some folk here?

I'm wondering if an Amstrad compatible joystick would work on a PC/Mac emulator via a DB9 to USB converter?
Basically, i'm thinking about finding a Powerplay Cruiser for games playing, as joypads don't seem to be cutting the mustard.

But obviously i'm not going to take the gamble to find they don't work. Does the adapter or the joystick connector require rewiring?

Any information would be appreciated. :)
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

The standard USB to 9pin D-Sub that you are talking about obviously won't work. They convert USB to RS232, not what you need. There are however several solutions available that will do what you want. Both the schematics and finished devices can be found / bought on the interwebs. Here's one that seems to be quite good: http://www.retro-donald.de/pages/usb-joystickadapter.php

Cheers for the info, Bryce. I know absolutely bugger all about CPC hardware, so this looks exactly the ticket for me. My German absolutely sucks though (considering it's non existent!), so looks like it's google translator to the rescue. :)

I'm sure there are English versions of these devices on offer. I just like that particular device because it allows you to connect two Joysticks.

Yeah, it's a pretty handy feature, although being a CPC464 owner, only way i played 2 player games is if i used the keyboard and the second player used the joystick. ;)

Gonna have a look around though, as I don't really need two joystick ports, and the adapter is going to cost more than the joystick! ;)

You're looking for a really specialist item, so yeah, I'm guessing you're going to pay more for the adaptor than the joystick itself no matter what.

Thanks for the recommendation and I have sent the supplier an email before I purchase it.   Regarding the German model, it says kit on their site but not sure if it comes fully assembled or whether you have to solder it yourself?

There is another recently available option from another person for £15 / $25, but that is a small cable with only one socket input.

But are these adapters compatible with CPC two-button joysticks? The site mentions C64 and Atari, which both use 1-button joysticks.

Bryce

You'd have to ask the developer. Technically it wouldn't be a problem to impliment.

Hmmm I may get one myself... they look nice! Heh, imagine that, my QrapShotII playing on my PC!

cpc4eva

are these still available ???

i clicked on the links and they wont open....

i was playing death sword on java cpc as well as a few other titles and the x box controller just too sensitive for the gaming i want my barbarian to sit down and slice but he does every other movement possible quite frustrating so getting my hands on a cpc stick such as a magnum etc with usb connector would be awesome i must say !!!!
