Hello Amstradians ,
i am Dimitris and back in time , about 25 years ago i got an amstrad mp-3 modulator working with an amstrad CM14 color monitor using a modded rgb cable and an external power supply. The power supply went bad and i tried to put generic one but with the standard polarity instead with the infamous amstrad  reversed polarity and thus burning the mp3 modulator.Do you know if it is fixable or maybe what i should do to repair it?Is it just a fuse maybe? Is it fixable?I wanted to hook up a commodore 64 in the same monitor set up.thank you .

Bryce

Hi amijim,

it's usually difficult to predict what will fail with a reversed polarity, however, the MP3 is mainly a discrete analogue device, so the majority of components probably survived. The electrolytic capacitors will have died or at least be damaged and need replacement. The 2 ICs don't really have any protection either, so there's a good chance they didn't survive either. Most other parts (diodes, transistors and resistors) will all have survived.
Bryce.
