Has someone tried it with a CPC? Would love to hear some first-hand experiences. Seems to be a really decent alternative to the Framemeister.

Friends told me they had no problem using their 50Hz consoles with it. I doubt there'd be any problem with the CPC specifically. A problem that could arise, but that's true for any upscaler, is if your display doesn't play nice with 50Hz. TVs in PAL-land should be cool, but computer monitors may not be.

Unlike a conventional upscaler, that buffers each frame to upscale them with beautifying algorithms and spit them out at a set framerate, occasioning latency and stuttering on uncommon framerates, the OSSC is a line doubler, which means it only duplicates the lines (and stretches the pixels horizontally to keep the aspect ratio). The latency becomes minimal and it spits out whatever framerate was input. It's the display's burden to deal with it.

I myself am a CRT purist, but I only heard good things about it.

I've wondered for a long time if this would finally be a way to work with advanced demo effects like split rasters etc on a modern display. So I'd love to know if anyone has tried it...

Now this is interesting......
What do you hardware guys think?

Finally! My OSSC has just arrived.

I want to see chunky mode 0 pixels now :)

Awaiting for that review.
Plug everything you have at home  ;D ;D ;D

@Poliander

Awesome! Please test it with "weird" hardware scrolling techniques like edge grinder and prehistoric 2.
I'm very curious to see, especially in edge grinder, if the screen jumps left and right.

Really interested to hear how you get on with this, been very close to ordering one a number of times but not knowing how well it would perform with a CPC has held me back

I'll do some tests the next days and report back. Had not much time yesterday, but so far I can say it works pretty well. But I have not tested it with "critical" games yet (if you have ideas, tell me). The number of settings is really overwhelming :-)

*nudge* would love to hear more about this if you've found any time to play with it again...

I was waiting for my capture card to arrive :-) I'll integrate it today.

EDIT: It's time to change my footer line.

So far so good. I found actually two modes running the OSSC which are useful. That is OSSC in LineX2 mode which results in a 768x576 picture and LineX5 mode for 1080p, 1600x1200 or 1900x1200 resolutions. LineX5 mode is extremely sharp, I was really impressed. Sadly my AverMedia capture card does not seem to accept the 1080p signal from the OSSC, so there is that caveat...

Monitor compatibility seems quite good. For first tests I used a NEC MultiSync 2190Uxp (1600x1200) in OSSC LineX5 mode. The picture is unbelievable good. No noise or distortions, nothing. To play games it is almost too good, so I switched back to 576p. Also overscan trickery works, but top and bottom seem to be cut off in LineX5 mode. Another reason to stick with LineX2 for gaming and LineX5 for text, coding, SymbOS and so on.

My main monitor, a Dell U2713H, takes almost everything the OSSC throws at him. So I switched to that, my main PC now is connected to DVI and the CPC/OSSC to HDMI and I'm able to switch between both devices. The AverMedia has a preview window, so that almost feels like RDP'ing to a CPC ;-)

It is possible to simulate scanlines (horizontal and vertical), but scanline simulation could probably be much better for high-res modes (1080p+). This needs some more sophisticated algorithms on OSSC side I suppose.

Here is my first try to do a capture (and to upload something to YouTube). But the quality does not quite reflect what can be actually done with the OSSC. I'll hope to improve the quality, hopefully I can process the 1080p signal properly in the near future. CPC Livestreaming anyone? :-)

Very nice :)

Did you also try any demos and games that use effects not normally working with LCD TVs? I think I've worked out what my birthday present is going to be...

I'll do some more, hopefully before weekend, I have to figure out how to do proper HD captures. I just ordered an Elgato Camlink which is reported to do OSSC captures at Line5X/1080p. Then I'll do Edge Grinder next.

(OSSC perfect 5X on a 4K TV. Not mine.)

To be precise, 1600x1200 is perfect for 5X :-)

yeah, I'm just repeating the original uploaders words haha

Now I have a new tv without scart, some call that progress, I'm going to need a way to setup my old devices to the new screen and this looks promising.

But remember the OSSC is only a line doubler, not an upscaler. This is the reason why the compatibility to TVs/Capture Cards is worse compared to a proper upscaler like like the Framemeister.

Here is a very honest comparison, just uploaded a few days ago:

I didn't know the framemeister has been discontinued.
Thanks for the video.

I can confirm that the OSSC produces a horizontal jittering in Super Edge Grinder.

Boo!

Maybe you should post on the OSSC forums and see if he can fix it :D hehe
