I had a similar problem.
Re-soldering the cartridge slot helped here.

Re-soldering the cart??? :'( :'( :'(
im only good in making basic soldering  :'( :'( :'(

any hints on testing that scenario before taking action?

Devilmarkus

Well, not resoldering the cartridge!
Re-solder it's slot (the upcoming PCB from + main PCB and the contacts on the main PCB itself.

To check this?

Well do you also get sometimes a yellow screen with a few stripes on it? (Perhaps also with blue content and yellow stripes)

To check it: Insert the cartridge, press it a bit down and power on the CPC.
Is the result better?
Then try to pull it a bit upwards, power the CPC on again etc.

Edit: Every TV repair shop could re-solder these contacts for you and I am sure it wouldn't be too expensive!

I have tried the up/down thing and i get all kinds of artifacts screens
some with stripes
others take over the whole screen

Then, my first step would be to re-solder the socket ;)

I can't say for definite on this one, because I don't know what parameters are used by the Plus equivalent of the CRTC are.. but from the picture I think:

1. The CRTC is running, because the screen size is correct and positioned well.
2. The Z80 must have executed something from the system cart to do this.

Possibilities here:

Bad ram
Bad communication between ASIC and ACID (Markus' suggestion).

But I can't say for definite.

Try removing and re-seating the z80.
EDIT: Forget that it looks like it's not socketted.

i also tested it on one of my others cpc+ and works fine

Is there an easy way to test the ram?

Is the sound output connected? Otherwise you won't hear anything anyway.

My bet is also the cartridge to ASIC connections, try cleaning the contacts and checking for bad solder joints.

Did it suddenly break after working normally? Or did you get it in this condition?

Bryce.
