Hi guys,

I have picked up an AMSTRAD CPC464 but without its PSU. The CPC464 requires 5V DC at 2A. I have an AC adapter here with me which outputs 5.6V at 2.86 amps. Can I use it at least to test the machine?  What about the PSU connector positive and negative? How this should be set for the CPC464?Correct me if I am wrong but I do not think 0.6V will be out of tolerance for the safety of the components right?  ::)

Most components within the CPC are rated 5V +/-5% which is 5.25V max. Some may survive 5.6 some not.
Supply polarity is positive on centre pole.

Ok so better not to take the risk then :-X . I will try to dig out a PSU of 5V max then. Thanks!

I just bought this cheap one in 5V 3A for my 6128

I'm not sure I'd trust a PSU that cost less than €2, just because it cost less than €2.  ::)

This is what I use and can fully recommend:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Netzteil-AC-DC-Adapter-FSP-Group-FSP020-DGAA1-Output-5-0V-4-0A/181720877847

It's made in China, but it's designed and manufactured by a company who supply very high grade computer and server PSUs to most well-known manufacturers. It also comes with the correct connector for the CPC already fitted.

Hi guys.

I am looking for a reliable power supply for my 6128 and 6128 Plus.

I found the below in AliExpress:

€ 13,93  10%OFF | Meanwell GST18A05-P1J AC/DC Adaptor Power Adapter Supply 15W 5V 3A  Level VI MEAN WELL desktop Adaptor Output Power Supply
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/5pw0Q1OY

Anyone has experience with this brand?

Do the specs look OK?

Would appreciate your guidance.

The specs are ok for CPC/PLUS/GX. I have one in 4A (GS25A05-P1J), I use it on several (most) other hardware than Amstrad. (I own the 9V model as well)
It doesn't get hot, I like them a lot. I use a barril adaptor 2.1-2.5 for GX4000 and 6128PLUS. Similar to this: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/5-5x2-1mm-to-5-5x2-5mm-AC-DC-Power-Supply-Plug-Jack-Adaptor-Converter-Uj/254100248964?hash=item3b298e1984:g:GXAAAOSwwZtabVi0

Shining

Nowadays I power all my CPC and Plus (they all have gotek and do not require 12V anymore) with something like this:

Cable for CPC:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00M552AE2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cable for Plus:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00DELCYP6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Example supply:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B014QKKOQE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

All without any problems.

And as a side-effect. I could charge my phone, when I'm at a party  ;) .

It's a Meanwell, stupid name, but well known as a relatively good quality brand.

Following advice from the Forum I purchased two of the Mean Well PSU's  for a 6128 Plus with a 3.5" B drive. 100% happy with them - they work fine and that's all that matters.

Thank you all!

Should I go for the 3A or the 4A?

Bryce

If it's only for the 464, then 3A is fine.

Bryce.

Hi Bryce

It is going to be used for a 6128  Plus and a plain 6128

Bryce

3A will still be fine. If you had intended using it for something more power hungry like an Amiga, I would recommend higher.

Bryce.
