GX4000 PSU

In my quest for a 6128, I got bored looking and picked up a cheapo GX4000 minus PSU. Has anyone got a link or an idea of how to power the thing on and check it works?

And any advice on the best output for video would be appreciated too.

I have a GX4000 - the thing is a bit tricky,

You can power it with 5v DC (Center positive 2 Amps) - but the video is only outputted through the Amstrad monitor port

Or can power it with 11v DC (Centre positive) which powers the scart port.

I tried to use mine with a Scart->composite dongle (Red/White audio and yellow video lead) and the 5V adapter - but nothing worked because the 5v line only works with monitors, so I use a 10V Famicom adapter (i850 miliamps) with the polarity swapped - famicom is center negative but I converted it - 10v seems to be enough

If you've got a CPC monitor, you can just plug it into that, if not, a 10/11V adapter and scart lead or converter is what you need

Thanks for that. So I shouldn't use the supplied PSU anyway if it was included, but it being missing suggests that's what happened to the PSU and my board might be fried.

The good news is I've been after an excuse to buy a variable 12v DC bench supply, and I've probably found it!

I think it is far to early to add 2 and 3 and declare the result as 4 
In that thread the thing that is being pointed out is that the Amstrad supplied PSU is only good enough for use with "standard" normal cartridges. And that it cannot cope with any other type of expansion.

With yours, it is possible that there was a fault. But it is also possible that the PSU just got lost. Or maybe used for something else.

So when you get a suitable PSU, test it. It may be okay.

It's my own fault, I just thought I'd go;

1. Drunken eBay purchase
2. Regret aforementioned purchase but figure out power supply
3. Burn some Rubber [emoji38]
