I've rencently got an Amstard CPC128 with a CTM644... I'm really happy with the purchase except for one thing. I'm pretty sensitive to refresh rates and I've been using flatscreens for years now with high refresh. Until, today, I've never looked at a CRT for years and noticed a slight shimmer flicker on really bright colours. Is this normal for a 50htz monitor refresh rate? I did own an Amstrad CPC back in the 80s and I don't remember this shimmer/flicker on the setup I had back then.

I suspect I was less sensitive back in the 80s but over the years, while using flat screens with high refresh, I just notice it more now. Or is there something wrong with the monitor?

If it's a normal thing then it goes to show technolgy does improve :)

After some minutes you get used to it. Or you can make a switch in the CPC (see LK wire-jumpers on pcb). The most easy method is to change by hand:

Well, you also have to adjust the monitor by hand every time.

Thanks for replying. I guess technology moved on from the 80s :) I am getting used to it... turning the brightness down helps on those really bright colours. With my rose coloured glasses, I always thought the picture quality was excellent on those old Amstrad monitors. I guess it was not when seeing them again

I don´t appreciate much flicker when using my Amstrad monitors but definitely the picture quality is far from excellent  :D I still like them a lot, call it nostalgia, but Amstrad screens suffered a bit from ghosting, purity problems... even when they were new. Now that they are more than 30 years old in some cases and we are spoiled by fantastic screens that is even more evident.
