Title: I'm a noob to CPC stuff - I've recently purchased a CPC 6128 Plus
Post by: AmstradNoob on 12:18, 03 November 18
I'm a complete noob when it comes to Amstrad CPC stuff. I've recently picked up a CPC 6128 Plus. I'd like to know what I can do to it, to pimp it out.

I've already purchased a C4CPC.
When trying to find things for the CPC 6128 Plus, it seems quite difficult to do, since Google just feels I'm trying to look for something else. Since the + symbol means to add more, and the word "plus", is used very often when people have done more than one thing to their CPC 6128.

From my understanding, the 6128 had an edge connector, but the 6128 Plus has a Centronics connector.

I've found links proving that back in the day there were Plus to CPC adaptors that fixed this problem.

Where can I buy up such a thing these days? I've seen in some videos, that seem to allow for more than one thing to be connected at a time. Is there that kind of thing for the 6128+, so the port at the back doesn't get damaged? For example, a Centronics plug, a bit of cable, then a PCB that has 2 or 3 edge or Centronics ports hanging off it?

I've come across as well that an m4 rev2.5b might be a thing to buy - but I can't find a place to buy one - plus, apart from adding wifi and storage, what does it really do? I've found no real docs on it? Even after reading this - http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/M4_Board (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/M4_Board)

It's it really worth getting a 512K expansion?

All in all, I'd like to pimp my 6128 Plus out, and would like to know what's worth getting, and doing the the 6128 Plus?

Everything I'd have to buy, because I don't have an electronics background.

Thanks for any help!

You can find almost all software for CPC and CPC+ here: http://www.cpc-power.com/

These days most expansions are available with IDC connector and you can connect them to a CPC plus with a Centronics to IDC cable.
As for bus expander there is MotherX4 which is commonly used and will allow you to connect upto 4 expansions with IDC connector at the same time.

Try this search: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=M4+amstrad   and you can see what M4 board can be used for. The docomentation link is in my signature.
You can buy by sending me PM or a post at http://www.spinpoint.org/

Depends, not much software uses it. But if you want to run something like SymbOS you will need it.

Thank you very much for the info you've given. There's even more than I thought for the CPC 6128 Plus.

I've contacted TotO about the MotherX4.

I will also be contacting you about the M4.

Thanks again!

Well, the Schneider CPC6128 (German version of the Amstrad) had the Centronics connectors too. It's definitely better to stick with them.

For expansion I can suggest an HxC floppy emulator as B drive. Further an ROM and RAM expansion. There are different solutions. Check out the hardware section here (forum and wiki). You'll find lots of great things.  :)
