Hi,

Just bought two cool novelties scart cables, one for a 6128 and one for a 6128 Plus.
The 6128 cable is "active" the Plus version is not.
Is the output from the Plus better/stronger in some way?

Cheers,

Peter

Yes, it's more bright, but I don't know the numbers.

Slightly brighter, but more colour bleed because saving half a cent by leaving out the capacitors obviously seemed like a good idea to the Amstrad team at the time   :picard: .

I bought 2 of these cables and the display was very dark, I had to turn the brightness up :(
Life's a bitch. You marry one or two then you die !

Hello there, i believe that there is a solution, if your scart cable is connecting the RGB signals with some resistors to the ground lead try desoldering them and check if you have a better signal, i had a similar issue in the past from an ancient scart cable of a cheap badly made sega genesis clone and this actually improved the situation a lot.

I'd only ever buy cables from Retro Computer Shack. The Cool Novelties cables I've had feel very cheap in comparison.

Never worked for Alan Sugar did you? He'd sit there with the designers questioning everything. Not a penny more than was needed was ever spent and he drummed that into his designers.

No but I've worked for very similar people with very similar project budgeting.

So is there any difference in the output quality between Retro Computer Shack and the Cool Novelties cables?

Cheers,

Peter

My observation has been that the powered cable from Retro Computer Shack has the better quality - cleaner signal with no interference
