I figured people would like to show off their nice ROMboard and ROM's 



Why hide them?


Also, with a lid, you wouldn't have access to the Reset and Pause buttons - something that the original ROMBO didn't have.

I don't know if the buttons are raised enough to be accessible through holes? Or there could be a cutout?

I was just asking, lacking a 3D printer I can't say much and was only wondering, because when you say "case" you tend to think something that *encases* things, whereas this is more of a base. But I see your point about personal preference. A transparent cover would be nice!

ROMBoxes shouldn't have lids. ROMs get swapped often and you need to see what's installed / enabled / disabled.

Yup, I see your point, but for this board it didn't make sense as the reset switch is low profile and a finger sized hole for the reset wouldn't look very nice. I'm all about the simplicity.


I like your idea about a transparent lid, and I might knock one up for myself, however most 3D filament that claims to be Transparent is more translucent, but I'd like to print it and see if it looked nice.


I'm not a 3D designer by any means and I just wanted a box that meant that the board wasn't scratching around on the desk.


If I was selling this, I might have put a little more design time into it, but as it is it's functional and does the job.

I don't necessarily agree with that assumption... Some users may burn ROMs all the time, others have a few that are always installed (my case; used to have a programmer but since I found myself rarely using it and with the advent of other solutions I gave it away).

Yeah, I understood that, that's why I said I was only wondering. Were it a product for sale I might have phrased it more like a suggestion.

I don't use a ROMBoard much either these days, but when I did, I always had more ROMs than fit on the board and a few that clashed, so there was always a need to access the PCB... And then some guy came along and made the first Flashable ROMBoard.

When I had a ROMBO I never had the lid on it, as a programmer I needed to swap ROM's and reset my RAMROM chip regularly...


Of course a lid is an easy thing to design in Fusion360, so there's nothing stopping someone from adding a lid to it.
