strange "cable holder" when unmounting 6128
« on: 11:21, 01 September 14 »
Hello,
I'm currently unmounting my cpc 6128 motherboard to send it to Bryce for a repair;
most of it is straight forward,
however there is some sort of "cable holder"  that holds the floppy cable,
floppy power, and the cable that goes to the volume nob.

It is soldered to the motherboard ( !!! ), see pics from above and below.

It doesn't seem to do anything functional,
but I'm a bit afraid of cutting it , I thought I would ask around here first  ???

On my 6128's this is just a bendy cable tie. There is no need to cut it, just bend it and free the wires.

  • It's not broken, it just hasn't been fixed yet.

Why do anything with it? The floppy cable and power cable are also soldered to the PCB, so you are going to have to send me the PCB with both of them still attached.

Bryce.

and one from a peripheral that is blocked in there ( ingoing )
I will check again tonight  :)

Here's what needs to be disconnected:

Floppy cables (flat and power) = Disconnect at disk end.
Keyboard = Disconnect at mainboard side
12V input = Disconnect at mainboard side
Power switch = Disconnect at mainboard side
LED = Disconnect at mainboard side

Then the PCB is free, but will still have the two cables to the floppy dangling from one end. The wire loop you mention is only soldered at one end, you can bend it up to free the wires.
