Video 1A

A quick tour thru the menus of this excellent program.
I will be making a more detailed video on the AAS at a later date so any comments, hints, tips or criticism are welcome.

Not emulated - original hardware and software

Sykobee (Briggsy)

I used this a lot, great fun, and pretty easy to use, especially once you had a mouse.

@ComSoft6128
I always wondered what AAS looked like in action.
What a stunning piece of software!

While looking for more background on the program I found this quote -

"Oxford Computer Publishing developed The OCP Art Studio after programmer James Hutchby saw an Apple Macintosh for the first time, as he remembers: "I admired the Mac but couldn't afford to own one, so instead I tried to do the same thing on a 48K Spectrum."

Video 1B.

This video shows how someone with all the artistic talent of a brick (i.e. me) can assemble a great looking Mode 1 screen in just a few minutes using a worked example from the AAS manual.

I couldn't quite remember when I first saw Advanced Art Studio until I saw that image with the Castles in it, which was friends of ours that had a 6128 and were using it with a Joystick  :D
I've had a play around with it when software was online with the emulators and I played around with it, but not really creating a masterpiece or anything I recall which stands out and it's quite extensive piece of software for its time. Though I'd always look at the alternatives with Art programmes. The one thing I remember about collecting AA was I was always missing the issues which had SmArt, though I started collecting AA after it was originally published as a Type-in but got to miss it when it was on the AA74 Covertape, though I thought it was on one other before AA started giving away covertapes each month. I tend to have a liking to the simple Art programmes and used the Basic Art from AA73 Type-ins until an early version of GPaint was given away on the AA80 Covertape and funnily enough used that more than the other art packages that AA gave away, later on AA had the early AMSOFT Screen Designer which on the tape, that programme could only save Headerless Files to Tape, I can't recall if someone made a patch to fix that within the AA Forum pages, otherwise the lack of saving to Disc was the only thing wrong with it despite being a simple Art package. The other AA gave away was Picasso, though I think it was limited to MODE 1! AA had another Art programme within the Type-Ins called Art Studio, though the odd thing with that one was the Message on the Canvas screen here it is from the CPCWiki pages  :D

After all that I was looking at some art pictures in earlier AAs when Pat McDonald did the Look and one of the pictures I liked was done using Melbourne Draw, so I decided to have a look at that one which I purchased from the UK in the mid-90s, but didn't use it very much, I don't recall what the problem was with it, maybe too technical or in-depth.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Any chance of a video in the future?

Also, when the finished version is ready please PM me your address and I'll send a disk to you for a copy.
My PC's and CPC's don't speak to each other :(

Cheers,

Peter

Back in the days, i used AAT to edit all backrounds from Barbarian 2 stages. I still have the disk with modified version of barbarian 2 :)

Should it be possible to have a copy (dsk format, hfe...) ?

I will like to read it on iMPdraw v2 to see what's happening...

How do i create dsk/hfe files from 3" disk? I am not sure i have the hardware required. If i remember correctly my copy of barbarian 2 had the backgrounds in separate files. You can try opening them yourself ;)
