Phew, I am so happy that I finally got it!  :D

Well done. Send it over and I'll do a few messy mods to it and hack the case a bit :D

Bryce.

I did a quick check and the most recent previous C65 I could find reports of on eBay sold for US$23,000 in 2015.

So I say: invest!

No idea if such a crazy price makes sense: In 20 years probably nobody remembers Commodore or the C64 anymore beside us and some other old grandpas. So why should a C65 be still so expensive in the future? Of course you never know...
But I know 100 other things, which I would more like to buy for this amount of money instead of a C65 protoype :)
I see them too often on retro meetings every year. I remember the VCFE in Munich 2006 when we had four C65 at the same place.
It will be interesting if people, who show their C65 every year on meetings/exhibitions like the Classic Computing, GamesCom etc. will still do it now after this auction :D

Excellent you got it!

Any chance of a SymbOS port for the C65 before X-mas?

It sure would thrill me and my friends to see SymbOS run on my 3 C65's next to my 6128, at this new years eve party!

Regards,
Ygdrazil

I'm pretty sure the auction had been cancelled due to a lot of strange biddings (biddings of tens of thousands euro from accounts with zero feedbacks/ratings)

Oh well. I wonder how much a C65 is really worth? It'd be cool to own one, but I'd rather have a working 6128+ or Enterprise or some other super 8-bit that at least has some software.

Oh, then I could perhaps sell you a mint-condition 6128 Plus for, say, $40,000 and an Enterprise (missing its little joystick, but otherwise like brand new) for $55k? :D

20.000 to 25.000 € depending on condition, perhaps up to 30.000 € when in very good condition with complete accessories.

You can't give a price point with so little data points. Its value is what it sells for every time it appears, and only last for that auction. So, a couple of days ago its 'worth' was €85K. If another came along in quick succession, it could be 10K. Or 5. Or 40. Who knows.

I have records of several C65 sales since around 2008 so this is a quite realistic price point. (Before 2010 they were sold at 5000 to 8000 € but in the past three or four years they really went that high repeatedly with only one exception). This auction was cancelled because of fake biddings that's for sure (look yourself)

And how many data points is that, over the course of 10 years? You need several, contiguous sales to be able to judge it.

Not to mention that an auction is, in terms of economics, a very hard place to create supply and demand curves and clear the market. What do we know from this last auction? That there was a person for whom it was worth 85K, a few other persons lower than that, and a seller who had set what? as a reserve price point, which was what *he* judged it was worth. It just doesn't work.

Poliander

Yeah. Whatever ;-)

Shining

A completely other level but see the classic cpc the last few years, which got more and more expensive. Some years before, noone wanted them. I think the whole retro-stuff is at a peak at the moment.

I think scarcity has increased, and so has the spending power of the people who had these machines back in the '80s and therefore might be interested in acquiring them again, but I'm not sure about 'peaked' as both of those things are probably still growing. Though I guess that increasing incompatibility with modern displays might help, if it reduces the interest of many in acquisition?

Yes, definitely agree with this, it really is for curiosity/completeness as Gryzor said.
It is simply a 464 after all (although, the history/story behind it is cool if you like that sort of thing).
I was lucky enough to pick one up in 2013 for 100 Euro delivered to Australia (so a fair bit of that is postage).
That one advertised translates to just over 500 Euro not including postage.

Cheers,
Shane

Hi there! I got one last great offer for you all...

It's the original CPC464 which was used till the end by the Vortex company which developed lot's of CPC expansions.

This CPC464 also contains the internal SP512 RAM expansion with 512 KB.

Of course the machine works 100% and is in very great condition.

Well, if you like to take a look:
