Hello guys,

If you haven't noticed, on the front page of the wiki there's a "News" section. Up to now I've been struggling to keep up with updating it, but the scene has now found a nice pace and, in many cases, I can be very late in updating that news box.

So, I'd like people to start helping me in maintaining it and adding news at will. I'd be really grateful!

Cheers

Well, if you can troll in one line or less, feel free to update the news :D

Btw, Border 7 picked it up and posted a piece of news! Thanks mate! It's not 100% what I had in mind, since this section is used for news outside the wiki, but I guess we could use it to promote internal stuff as well (as discussed a while ago), why not?

Good thing you did, too. Let's see if others follow...

The problem is, I've already missed quite a few pieces of news and releases. But I'm putting whatever time I have into the wiki maintenance, so it may be days before I catch up with news and the forums etc, so it keeps lagging behind... :(

Quote from: tastefulmrship on 13:22, 29 September 12If you believe the Wiki is not being updated enough, why don't YOU update it? Check CPCPower, CPCRulez and the GAMES forum here to see what is being worked on or released and then update the front page of the Wiki? Why not trawl the German, French and Spanish forums for snippets of games in production, too? Google Translator isn't brilliant, but you can get the jist of conversations!
I though that many peoples (me first, few months ago) was not aware about the fact that the home page can be updated like all other wiki sections.
And I think that the home page should be managed exclusively by peoples getting administrator rights.

It's too easy to said "Do it yourself" and "go to other websites to get infos", but CPCWiki is "the most popular" CPC website over the world and many peoples expect to find all updated news here finaly... :)
If no news here, no CPC life for many guys that don't spend time to check boards content.

Why interesting english bots news (genesis8, ..) are not used to auto-update the home page news entries instead, to keep it alive ?

@EgoTrip & @TotO
These are things you need to being to the attention of the CPC-Wiki admins, not me. I can find all the informationz I need from multiple CPC sources, but if you want a single repository for all CPC informationz (demo/game projects in production, new releases, any/all news posts) then you need to make sure the admins are doing this for you. Simply moaning at me for providing a quick solution to the problem is not the way forward.

I don't ask that to you. (I have sent an PM to Gryzor, when I posted)

Now, take a look on the home page. :)

@Egotrip: as has been discussed, it hasn't been on the front page because I did not have the time to update it :) Indeed, a shame they went by without a mention (well, not all of them, but anyway). Also, as tastefulmrship mentioned, me not updating it=nobody did. The wiki is, after all, a collaborative project...

You're dead wrong about what you say about the wiki not serving its purpose and about people involved in the projects or the wiki admins updating it. The Wiki was NOT designed as a place to get your news, but as an encyclopaedia. I started the News section because I felt that it'd be useful and, what's more, could give rise to more articles, but news is NOT the wiki's purpose. These past few days I've been rethinking this very issue (check the homepage), but this does not mean the wiki's purpose has changed, merely that something else was bolted on it.

Also, it's never just up to a project owner or the admins to edit a page. I was surpised to read that, to tell you the truth. It's *everyone's* 'job' to update and edit the wiki. And, as I'm presently the only admin on it, it'd be surreal if I was aware of all the news - unfortunately, not enough time.

@TotO, as I mentioned in that other thread, the main page was indeed locked because of instances of vandalism in the past. However, it's been opened and -to tell you the truth, nobody even bothered to ask me for permission to edit it... I don't mind letting more people on to edit the homepage. Yes, it's more sensitive indeed, but I do review every single change that takes place (believe that), so if anything bad happens we can discuss it.

And, thanks for the RSS idea as we discussed in our PMs, seems to be working. But again, it'd be much better if the news were manually edited...

In discussions with another member that I had the idea was put forth that maybe we could add a landing page *before* entering the wiki, one that could possibly contain one button/banner for the wiki, another for the forum and maybe a news flow or even a third button for a more analytical News page on the wiki... What do you think about it?
