So, Google came up with another of their offers. I found an email offering me 75 euros' worth of free adwords, so I was wondering if there's anyone in here with experience in the issue? Maybe we could use them...

Sounds like it's a "too good to be true" offer to me. Some of these schemes suck you in by offering something fantastic only to have ridiculous conditions or they want something from you in return to be eligible for the 75 Euros. Get a copy of their Terms and Conditions before signing up for anything I say!

* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

You're not wrong in that, but it's Google we're talking about, they do have a reputation after all... from what I can see there's no catch, other than after Nov.15 the coupon value drops to half the original 75 euros.

So, anyone? Guys? :)

Googles reputation seems to have slipped somewhat, countries like Turkey have Banned anything to do with Google and I was just reading about Greece banning the Street Directory! And from what I've seen their in this habit of pushing in uncharted territory with things like online Copyrighted Books.

True it maybe legit, unfortunately you'd have to read the Ins and Outs to get your 75 Euros!  ;D

Probably just free advertising to get you hooked :) Noting wrong with that in my eyes

No, not really - that's why it's called an 'incentive'. I do think they ask for a payment of 5 or 10 euros, supposedly to stop people from launching campaigns just for fun[nb]if they didn't have that, and since you pay for clicks, anyone could just start silly campaigns and add lots of noise to the system[/nb], but I'm more than willing to pay that...

Come on, noone has done any online advertsign? :)

Yes, I have.  But it all all works on 'conversions' - if you've got nothing to sell or 'convert' to (and a method of tracking this) it's pretty pointless.

75 EUR might sound like a lot, but it's nothing, believe me.  You'll spend it in a day I expect.

So it might be worth it to get 1000 clicks or something, but 95% of that will be worthless traffic and you've got nothing from it except a whole lot of load on your servers (and probably some reckless vandalism of the wiki).

Indeed the latter one is a potential pitfall  :(

Well, it'd be worthless traffic if you didn't target your campaign, of course. If you target it to specific keywords (retro? Amstrad? 8-bit? stuff like that) then it's not really garbage, and you may gain a few visitors... or are we trying to be an elitist community? :D

Not at all, I was just giving you my opinion on AdWords!

There are other ways of promoting the website and I think organic search is much better for this type of thing.

Gryzor

I was only kidding :)

Well, I agree with your view on organic search, that's why in the past I've asked if there's anyone that has done some SEO to help us do it right.

On the other hand, it's free advertising, after all! :)

The irony of all this (with Google at least) is the best way to do SEO is get your website as good as you can and then spend some money on AdWords... you'll be amazed at how quickly you go up the organic search listings.

But of course I mean spend considerably more than 75 EUR, but it still usually works out a lot cheaper than a so-called SEO specialist.  ::)

Gryzor

Yes, I know, that's why I haven't pursued it to much. However, there are still tips and tricks that do work...
