Hi There...

Sorry for not being so active lately.. but real life intervened :-(

A friend of mine has scanned a few CPC related books .. not previously published (to my knowledge) on the internet.

Among these are:

Amstrad (cpc464) Whole Memory Guide.
A book about AI and the CPC (Cant remember the exact title)
and some other titles!

The books has been transferred to plain text, I was wondering if there is a way to put this to good use on the wiki.

Maybe put the entire book in a single article on the wiki.. This way information will be easily searchable accessible through the wiki search engine.

References to chapters etc. could be done be links into the article....

Any suggestions?

Regards,
CPCLER

Gryzor

I think you got it right; all text in one article would be the best so as to be searchable, BUT I have no idea about the article limit of the wiki. Unless we create one article for each chapter? I can help with this.

Also, let's provide the zipped file for download...

Thanks so much - this is great :)

Cheers

And the award to the resurrection of the oldest thread goes to.....!!!

So, good news @Audronic , we do have that! Check out Amstrad Whole Memory Guide - CPCWiki . Unfortunately it hasn't been OCR'd after all, any volunteers? :) The scans are up there...

Good news #2: the wiki has a search function :D

umm - thread necromancy from 2007??  ???

anyway... here's a link to that book whose auction ended unsold only a few days ago - if you want your own (offline) copy it can't hurt to write a message to the seller and ask if they still have it available. perhaps they could create a private listing for you so that only you can buy it from them  ;)

yes - but a lot of pages missing

No pages are missing as far as I can tell, they're just not in text form.

Then look at chapter 7 and upwards

Gryzor

Ah I just took a quick look, didn't realise the images are actually missing.

Here, try out this: File list - CPCWiki . There seem to be more, there, though I did spot one missing. Got to go into a meeting right now so I don't have the time to to a complete check...

Gryzor

Yeah, strangely there are seemingly random pages missing; these are all the filenames of existing pages:

I'd suggest uploading the full PDF to http://archive.org. I think we should be having copies here and there of any material that could be relevant. I think it's quite important to have back-ups of important things. Just remember push'n'pop...

BTW, thank you very much for such an nice work, @CPCLER :D

Gryzor

Unfortunately @CPCLER hasn't signed in for over a year now... hope he's doing alright.

As for the PDF, well, if we did have that it'd be on the wiki I guess :D

Audronic

Hi All

I have just purchased a copy from #Bay.
It should be here in a week or 2

Thanks    Ray

I found one on AbeBooks going for £15 (second-hand), so it's still fairly available.

* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Ha, it never occurred to me to look on AbeBooks for Amstrad titles - but then again, why not? :D

@Audronic - is there a chance of you scanning it?

I will have a look at it when it arrives, I only have an old Scanner at home.

Is it one of these?

The 1st scanner I recall using was a Flatbed scanner, which was a big fat thing, running off some Mac System (Mac Plus or Classic I think), if the image to be scanned wasn't in B&W, forget it, the Image I had was part B&W with a Colour Backdrop, but the good thing about that was I was after the B&W bit!

I have no idea what to expect from that Scanner, I didn't even know the Amstrad had one!
