Title: CPC Football games
Post by: ComSoft6128 on 10:14, 20 June 18

Never having played a football game on the CPC this seems the right time to ask these questions:

1. What do you think was the best overall CPC football game?
2. Which had the best graphics?
3. Which had the best gameplay?
4. Are any of them worth playing today?

Or was an 8-Bit machine with limited memory just not up to the task?

My take :

1. Emlyn Hughes International Soccer
2. Emilio Butragueño Football
3. I would say Emlyn Hughes, but Kick Off is fine (but ugly).
4. I play Emlyn Hughes quite often. Although Matchday II controlling the 2 players at the same time, and Emilio Butragueño Football at 150% speed on a en emulator (too slow if played at regular speed).

Programmer were not up to the task.

I am a Match Day II guy...

1 Match Day II
2 Butragueño
3 Match Day II
4 Match Day II, in 2 player mode.

It was also Michel Fútbol Master, I did not like the matches but the skills part was interesting for a change.

I believe matchday II is the best.
Very good gameplay, i play it in <hard kicks> mode.Graphics are ok. Best is gameplay. Although it is someway slow, it can be very enjoyable. I beleive the best thing is the way the ball moves after the player hits it with the body (in the air). It is very realistic and you can make good headers after some practice.
Of course it is worth playing, i often play. What thing is better from the new football games is that in Matchday II you (and only you- not the computer or the quality of the player) define where the ball will go. It is not a matter of luck. When you make a good shot or header it will be in, or, otherwise, it will be your fault.
I believe it is the best game that could be made with 1 button only for shooting/passing (very clever designed on that matter)

I would recommend you to play Emilio Butragueño, Mundial de Futbol, Michel Futbol Master, Emilyn Huges and Matchday 2, all of them great games and the best for Amstrad IMHO

Kick Off can be enjoyable if you forget the absolutely ugly graphics
