Get your votes in!
Mine are already there! ;)
I know how difficult is to choose only one game in each category, all the games are really GREAT, any game could be the winner and it would be a magnificent winner.
Because that, i can only recommend to play and enjoy them during the next days, before of making your vote (although you can change your vote in any moment before the voting deadline). And VERY IMPORTANT don't forget to give your feedback in the official thread, because the authors will love to read your opinions about them.
Oh, yes, thank's for pointing that out. Constructive critics is always welcome :)
And it's good advice to play the game more than only a couple of times before voting :)
Maybe a numbering 1-4 would be of interrest too, but I dunno if this feasibel at all.
Good luck all!
Unfortunately multiple votes with points is not feasible; we discussed that, and this is the best we could come up with. Perhaps next year we'll be better prepared! :)
Well, Gryzor... now you make me curious ;) Which kind of thingy are we doing for next year? My fingeres are already itching and long for new coding adventures :)
Well, after the results we will open a thread to discuss how to improve the competition and make more attractive for the next year. For example, there was 20 projects registered and from those, only Cyber Hunh and Relentless have converted in real entries, lucky us we received two amazing surprises entries Overkoban and Subtera Puzlo... but we will discuss this in two weeks :)
Would it be possible to have a "mention spéciale du jury" in the voting ?
Where are they to download/play?
I have found them , will give them a burn now.
Are individual team members all allowed to vote for their creation?, if so, this gives larger teams an advantage over the lone programmer.
Well, I *hope* that the participating developers are NOT voting at all; I think it's obvious how this would be wrong. :P
But even if they did, if we asume that Tom&Jerry would vote for his game and not the other games he participated in as musician, then the teams are pretty much equal in members. ;D

Wow Relentless looks and plays great for 16k ! Only had a quick blast , all are good little games . Relentless has great scrolling and sprite movement . And The graphics have a different feel/Style to anything I have seen on the Amstrad!
@syx I think the one thing that stood out as a lesson is that time was short... don't know about much else though.
@fano: you think there's meaning in that, with so few entries? What title would you give it?
As for participants voting, I think our little scene is cool enough to not go for self-voting. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you guys want, I can dig into the db and find out who gave what votes...
Quote from: Gryzor on 10:32, 04 July 13@fano: you think there's meaning in that, with so few entries? What title would you give it?
I must admit i've been happy to see Redbox/Egotrip entry, it is a nice surprise and the game is good.I
think this entry desserves encouragements for the whole effort given in this projet, so i'd like to give it the honorific title "mention spéciale du jury" (i am not able to translate this correctly , sorry)
Maybe for the next competition, you should include a "Most original ideas" category.
Well, no room for such a thing here :D Sure, I love all four (CH is running right now next to me), but none would win any accolades for originality... Well, here's hoping :)
Ok, added the extra option, let's see if it makes any sense :)
Thx m8 ;)
With so many categories, it is starting to look like it is run by Socialists who feel competition is bad and that everyone should win something just for taking part.
Excellent mix of games.
Gotta love them chooks.Impressive amount of stuff on screen at once. Well done.
I really liked subtera Puzlo. Just had to keep going back for another crack. Nice game mechanics.
overkoban argh!!. Flashback to playing this frustrating game somewhere else. A pity the musics not playing during the game it would ease the mind crushing...so soothing.
Relentless WOW !!! :o
Is that fifty frames a second. that blew me away so fast I didn't think it was possible. Well conceived and crafted game engine. Programming ... LEGEND ...
And a big Thankyou to SyX for bringing this all about. ;D
I'm sure there are others who gave it a crack and learned a lot .I know I did. Hopefully there will be another Comp. 8)

And TotO, because was a join idea, and Gryzor for his amazing support since the beginning, and the participants, and the people voting and giving feedback, ... because this event must be a celebration of the CPC community and i hope that we can repeat the next year :)

Maybe start the contest a bit earlier, with the same end date, that way there is more time and hopefully more people will complete their entries. Maybe having it run over winter when people are indoors more is a good idea.
There does not need to be a start date only an annual end date, I have officially begun my entry for the 2020 competition. ;D

6 months for "only" 16K ... Not, one year.
If you give more, you don't get more. Just peoples thought they can wait before starting.
(except if they do other things, but in this case, they can participle to the next contest)
But there is no way to guarantee that a person or team does not work on a project for only 6 months or less, if you allow them to enter the following year then they have 18 months to work on it whereas others will have only the prescribed "6 months or less".

And why not 10 years? :)
A 16K game can be done in 3 months w/o problem for everyone interested by a contest.
The goal is to reproduce that each year, so it's not possible to leave more time.
In 1 year, you can make a great 64K game. And in 2 years projects like Orion Prime, BB4CPC, R-Type, ...
6 months is not enough time as has been proven in this competition since 2 entrants failed to meet the deadline, how do you enforce the 6 months development time?, you've already said they can enter the following year.
And what's wrong with a ten year development time?

Please, be serious... A contest w/o rule is not a contest.
Contest are not for lazy guys, who have the life for doing nothing.
16K, 6 months is nice and the result show that: 4 greats games. :)
We have aded an extra month for peoples who wanted to finish projects.
For others, they can continue to work for the next contest. :)

I have no problem with the 6/7 month rule, but when you allow them to enter the following year you are saying they have 18 months to write the program.

No, they have 1 year if they start today... 6 months if they rest and wait January.
Indeed, if we're having a context next year then it's a full year :D
Apologies for the mistake in Overkoban's name in the last poll, I was knee-deep in open-source stuff when I did it and I guess my mind wondered a bit!
A new compo! Great idea! :)
Well, I have voted, but not always for Overkoban :-)

Why not? 50 levels!!! ;D
Less than 1 week left to vote for you favorite game! 8)
All are greats productions than may have been commercial HITS, 25 Years ago.
They really deserve more than 50 votes to be congratulated.
Here are the votes of my Girlfriend (she's not going to create an account here just for voting, but it's interesting in which way girls judge the games though...):
1. Cyber Huhn
2. Overkoban
3. Subtera Puzlo
4. Relentless
I thought I'd make a post for each of my girlfriends' votes, but I'd foul up the thread... :D

Is there enough space for that on the server? ::)
Bryce.
Hah! I bet Cyber Huhn wouldn't even come close to Solitaire in a "best girlie game" compo :P

You can create a poll, and if we find more than 50 guys with a Girl-friend/Wife here, than you can start a new compo!
Well, judging by the fact that there's 46 votes for the curent compo, we maybe don't even have those 50 guys to begin with. ;D
rb
Haha! Either the time is too short, or some just lack the guts for voting
Definitely too short ??? Just come back off holiday and catching up. I've only just tried them very quickly on winape (my actual machines are packed away as I am still setting up my Everdrives bought via Amibay and needed the space for those consoles) and they look amazing! I'll have to have more of a play tomorrow and get my votes in. My first impression is I am blown away by the quality of the entries... I didn't expect them to be THAT good if I was being honest so haven't really following the competition (big mistake on my part). Hope this becomes an annual thing.
Less of 24 hours to make your vote! Hurry up!!! ;)
Got mine in now ;D
I voted Relentless in most categories as it looks pretty unique and sounds fantastic although my favourite overall game is Subtera Puzlo - I just keep going back to it in my tea break. All are worthy additions to the CPC library IMO.
The last poll (fuzzy feelings) has been closed an hour ago, and we have a clear winner in the first edition of Amstrad CPC 16KBs ROM Game Development Competition, the team responsible of:
RELENTLESS
Congratulations to Axelay, rexbeng and Tom & Jerry for so amazing game :)And congratulations to the other teams (TFM, Macdeath, Tom & Jerry -amazing work in all the entries he has taken part-,Supersly, Eldrik, EgoTrip and redbox), because all the entries are between the best CPC games ever :)
We will get in contact with the winner team about the donation prizes (Thanks to Gryzor for them)... and we'll see the next year in the second edition!!! :)
Thanks, guys... thanks for the excellent littles[nb]well, 'little' in size, but not in quality![/nb], and thanks for the organisation of the compo. Still playing them, still actually loading them just to listen to the tunes. Can't wait for next year!
Soooooo........ is there a compo for next year?????
While waiting, one can always beat these first. :D Been playing Relentless quite a while now... Beautiful effort with "less is more" approach. Nice use of palette/"bitplanes" to separate sprites/background. Diagonal level design, smooth. And horizontal SHMUP at full framerate - brilliant! :P Couldn't get it through without cheating though... Ending screen wasn't too exciting, but can't have everything in only 16KB.
Well, uh, I don't know what to say... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the moms and dads of Axelay and Tom&Jerry. And ofcourse a big 'thank you' to all my fans here in the wiki for their love and support (tiny tear runs down cheek).
What can I say, you deserve me. 8)

Now... taking it all together...
Cyber Huhn...: 5+13+13+ 8+11 = 50
Overkoban....: 4+ 7+ 6+ 2+ 6 = 25
Relentless...: 33+31+26+39+ 8 = 137
Subtera Puzlo: 11+ 1+ 5+ 1+18 = 36
Quote from: TFM/FS on 18:45, 19 July 13Soooooo........ is there a compo for next year? ??? ?
Yes, i think it would be great to repeat the experience during the CPC 30th anniversay... and this time the people can not say they had enough time, because they have since this january until july of next year :P
I'm going to open a thread to discuss about how to improve the competition ;)
Thanks to everyone who's offered feedback on the games, it's always great to know they're being enjoyed. :)
And thank you to Syx & TotO for organising this, and to Gryzor for donating the prizes.
I hope the CPC can celebrate it's 30th anniversary next year with a bigger & better 16k competition!
I really feel bad for Overkoban, goes to show that the voting system is broken as it is. Or maybe it's just me, but I love this game.
It is a very good game!
