Perhaps Radzone is using BASIC for the responsive controls, though with part of the game just being in BASIC, then the computer will have to translate that code into M/C, which would probably give that game a lag time. Using a Compilable Language would improve the game, though reworking a Commercial Game has complications  :'( Though obviously assembly is best.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

I know what you mean. The response from the character in Radzone is indeed different than the response from Mario in Donkey Kong. If I was a real Radzone fanatic, I would defend it with something like "How fast would YOU move in a space suit?!"  ;)
It took me a while to get used to too, as far as I remember. But once you get used to it, you can get far, and even make moves you didn't think you could. Like e.g., in the level just right of the starting level, you can actually climb the vertical lamp-looking-thingies in each side by going top-right top-left top-right top-left and so forth.

But I admit I'm biased. Because I played Radzone a lot in my childhood and have a lot of great memories of it, despite never getting very far back then. I've almost completed the game twice in recent years though.

Still, when I compare Radzone with MANY other CPC games, I have to say that, Radzone is playable while a lot of other CPC games are just too difficult. Either they have enemies spawning way too fast, making the game completely unplayable, or else there's some pixel-perfect precision requirement, or some other silly thing messing it up. But Radzone is playable, not too difficult, lots of variation, many many screens, great atmosphere. It deserves more time. It does not deserve to be trashed after 5 minutes because you think the controls are different than other games.

Just saying.  :)

Points taken, And after giving it a little adventure and clearing a few screens I warmed to it a little. And I will delve deeper into it, I can't imagine my opinion vastly changing to it but I will give  it more of a run through and clear a few more screens. I have to say though it is terribly buggy , One screen where the platforms run across the screen leaving a snake like trail. That bugs out a lot! Things like that make it messy for me. It is a budget game though and you have to adjust your expectations. and as always personal opinion is always varied. Not everyone likes the same games.

Fair enough.  :)
I don't recall having seen any snake trailing in any levels though. If you're talking about the level on the top of the starting level, they're supposed to behave that way.
Otherwise, I'm guessing it's an emulator issue. I only play on the real machine, so I don't know if there could be an emulator issue.

If you notice when you try making your way up the platforms on those moving platforms , If you jump through them it leaves lots of broken fractured graphics, and yes that is the screen I am on about. How would you describe them btw?

Oh right, I forgot about that. That's true. There can be some graphics tilt in that particular screen, if you get caught. I forgot about it because I never get caught. :-P
But I remember I just exited and re-entered the screen.

Um... they are....  radio-active robotic snakes?

Puresox

Anyway you knew roughly what I was on about ! ;)

It was the only screen I remember that has "moving platforms" as you described it.

I loved games were the roles were reversed and you could take on the role of the "baddies"

mr_lou

I remember playing Thanatos, without having a clue what I was supposed to do. (That was the case with most games of course back then when you're just a kid).
I remember being annoyed that I died if I just kept on flying, and I still had no clue what I was supposed to do.
After a while I stopped playing, and loaded just for the title music. :-) Very melancholic and sad.

You know Thanatos is Greek for death, right?  ;D

MaV

Oh yeah, Thanatos is a great game. Difficult, but fun once I had worked out what to do.
A good start to learn the game would be to flame and grab the soldiers and knights that constantly attack you from below.

Radzone, IMO, was a good game as well, but I felt it was "tainted" by the bad scrolling, very nice music though.

I really liked Maze Mania, sure the graphics were not amazing but it was a good game.

That's wrong. Thanatos names the god of death in the greek mythology. But the word itself has another meaning, the best translation would be destruction. In Freuds theory also the long for death and destruction.

You're both wrong.

Thanatos is a real life superhero, like Kick-Ass, except Thanatos is real.

It certainly does mean death, for example from the Bible (Romans 6:23):
Quote from: Paul
τα γαρ οψωνια της αμαρτιας θανατος
For indeed the wages of sin is death.

Thanatos or θάνατος is the word we use in the Greek language for death. "Τραγικός θάνατος" means "tragic death" and "θανατική ποινή" is "death sentence" and so on.  I'm Greek, I *should* know.  :P

Of course he is also a minor god in the greek mythology.

Great to know what 'Thanatos' means , I just always thought of it as a cool nameand a great game with some lovely animations, music too!
I love a game of Maze Mania it is always enjoyable , not too hard and not overly easy. I have got a long way in the game , but I have never managed to clear a bonus level!! Will do soon though... I hope.

robcfg

There's also a name, Athanasios, which means 'Immortal'.

Isn't it cool? XD

In fact, 'Athanasios' is a very common male greek name which derives from 'Athanatos' ('A-thanatos) which actually means immortal. :)
