Thanks so much for this guys, great work. 8)
That's a great achievement Xifos, well done!
This is amazing stuff! The revised music really adds to quality feel throughout!
Fantastic!
Thank you very much Xifos, we are all grateful to you !
Well done, Nice work !!!
Not a fan of the original arcade game but this looks really well done for fans of it on the GX4000/Plus. Nice job
Very good job, congratulations !!
Excuse me, I forgot to also compliment Targhan for the wonderful remix of the original arcade soundtrack. Good job guys !
Great job Xifos and Targhan for your music, I've just got to work out a way of getting this onto a ROM so I can try it on real hardware. Thanks for all your hardwork and effort in creating this for us. Trevor

@Xifos (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=186) : Really fun to play
@Targhan (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=110) : Great tune convert as Always... I love it!
The original release was fantastic but you've surpassed even that with the final version. A truly fantastic showcase for what can be done and easily one of the top GX titles. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. :)
I still can't get anywhere in it though! :laugh:
Thanks all! It's been pleasure working on these songs. They were actually not easy to convert, the harmonies are not that obvious, and the midi files of the songs I could find on the net were most of times absolute rubbish! So I had to convert the notes by hear from the NES version. Anyway, thanks to Xifos for letting me in his project :).
I just checked it in my 6128 plus and it is awesome. Thank you and congratulations for the great job!!
The limited range of the weapon when multiple projectiles are fired is a deal breaker for me, I can't imagine why you'd implement such a feature, as you called it, but great work nonetheless.
So I take it this is a different version to Stab1loboss' 6128 Plus version of the game, to be released next year?
Guess which is the best 8bit micro nowadays...
At last these years quality software!!!

I am really really sorry, but am I allowed to say I prefered the original music from the Alpha Release.
this one is an awesome implementation of the tune, but I find it a little too dominant during gameplay.
But other than that really minor niggle, AWESOME job guys this is an amazing production
Awesome! My favorite game in arcade. Great convertion. Thanxx! ;)

Is anyone planning a physical release for this? I'd love to have an 'real' cart.
Since the c4cpc has proven we don't need no acid chips anymore is there any chance of a physical release in a box with artwork and a 3d printed card shell?

Best GX4000 game without question, and I don't think anything betters it of its type on the CPC, until these guys do Green Beret [emoji1303]

I agree, @xifos and @Targhan (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=110) have really created a bit of a monster! Probably the only game that pushes the GX beyond most of the official games.
Ok, this is where I am going to be a bit silly. For those who cannot play this game as nature intended on true Amstrad hardware, I have 5 cartridges I have knocked up. These work without the Acid chip on unmodified Amstrad GX4000s and Plus machines (thanks to @The Equalizor (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2279) for pointing (or rather pushing!) me in the right direction and @Nilquader (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=261) for the initial schematic).
All I ask is the price of postage (£1 in the uk). Drop me a PM if you're interested.
Sorry, there are no plastic cases.
** There are all now allocated **
Sorry if my question is dumb, but does this thing allow you to play G'n'G on a CPC old but just plugging it to the extension port??

There is no such thing as a dumb question :)
No, this is essentially a "Naked" CPC+ Cartridge. It plugs into the side of a 464/6128+, or the top of a GX4000, just like any other game.
Oh, my bad, I read "ASIC inside" instead of "ACID inside", so I thought the ASIC chip was built-in in the cartridge and allowed a CPC old to use it. Actually, not a bad idea, but I have not idea if it is feasible or not :).
£1! I guess they're all gone by now then :(
How does that work without ACID? Not just a simple ROM chip?

If you don't understand or misinterprete something, there is no harm in asking as you never know unless you ask.
It is funny nowadays it is easier to build new cartridges than having 3" disks....

Yes, I was wondering the same. I thought the plus cartridges had protection.
Quote from: reidrac on 15:42, 24 July 18

There is one, the ACID chip.
Here the protection is bypassed using a timing hack.
The ASIC is supposed to reset the ACID when serial sequence is not matching the expected one.
I looks like the reset signal goes faster out than reseting the internal sequence so by using a fast enough logic, you can present the ASIC with the wanted serial sequence just by looking at the reset one.
However, it may not work on all CPC as it's the result of setup/hold abuse and these vary with temperature, voltage and manufacturing process.

We just miss an "empty cartridge" 3D file to print ;)
It should be easy to draw starting from the C4CPC case.
@Gerald did one, http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/c4c4c-3d-printed-cartridge/
This one is for the C4CPC, I was talking about an original cartridge (without holes for the dip switches, LEDs....)

;)
Hi,
I have just received the cartridge by @Chinnery (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2434) , amazing game by @Xifos (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=186) and @Targhan (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=110) really looking great even in Flat TVs... Thanks for that great effort.
And I want also thank and cogratulate @Chinnery (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2434) for the hardware. I suggest all of you contact with someone, like PolyPlay or similar to sell this game, (although this one may have some license issue, I dont know), also other Amstrad games Polyplay has in their catalog in cartridge format. Plus/GX4000 users will be really pleased, I guess.
Now we could order some 3d printed boxes for the cartridge ;)
Great job.
It's great that people can enjoy ghosts'n goblins on real gx4000 or plus machines.
But, as you said, mainly because of license (but not just for that), i want this game to be totally free and must not be sold.If you pay, it's only for the cost of the cartridge itself.
Impressive work, I really like it! Do you think you can have legal troubles if selling physical copies?

About Green Beret! I have all the sprites and tiles riped from the arcade machine and recolored to the CPC palette by hand. :)
Xifos are you interested? I was too optimistic to make the first game in asm as a green beret.
So I quickly landed on the real ground and I rather started with the scramble. :)

I think that your scramble adaptation is already a great game and must have been a lot of work.For Green Beret, i am currently unable to begin a new project sorry.
A question:
Have you a next game project ?
No, i am exhausted (mentally speaking) :(
Rest well and come back with a great project in the genre! Why not an original game? Or better yet, an adaptation of Zelda for example :)

Why would you want to do that?
It should be possible with a RAM expansion and loading from floppies the data content. ;D
But... Better to buy a nice C4CPC, because the PLUS plus is the cartridge slot.
I have purchased a random cart from ebay will install an eprom on it :D
Will there be a physical release?

Nice. But, the french translation is not good at all. ;D
EDIT: A suggestion
"La belle princesse Prin-Prin a été enlevée par les forces des ténèbres. Arthur, chevalier à l'armure étincelante, s'est mis en quête de sauver sa bien aimée. Armé de votre dextérité, vous devrez braver démons, dragons et géants, gardiens des septs portes qui vous sépare de son ravisseur. Le roi des démons... Astaroth."
The cover is great but the Spanish text also has a few mistakes, it would be something like:
La hermosa Prin-Prin ha sido raptada por las fuerzas oscuras. Su amado, el Caballero de brillante armadura se dispone arescatar a la princesa. Ayudado por tu destreza debes pasar a través de 7 puertas custodiadas luchando y destruyendo demonios, dragones, gigantes y zombis, para enfrentar al Rey Demonio...Astaroth
amante in Spanish sounds like extramarital lover :laugh:
Is there any Italian/Greek to add some speech? :D
Sure ;D
Nice work! I think the cover looks great.
Cheers. I used Bablefish so I knew the translation wouldn't be perfect. I'll change it using your paragraphs.
Thanks

Astaroth
Better use this text, I only have added two missing spaces, in "dispone a rescatar" and "Demonio... Astaroth"
Greek translation.

See a conversion on old CPC, on C64 there is a fantastic remastered version, hope of see in the next future.On CPC for me can be possible a good conversion.
Thanks everyone for the help. Here is the final version. I may return to get translations for some other GX games I'm designing covers for, but I'll open a new feed for that.

Can you make some last edits?
"the Knight in shining armor" ------> "the Knight in his shining armor"
"Aided by your skill you must pass" ------> "Aided by your skills he must pass"
"διανύοντας" ------> "διασχίζοντας"
"πολεμόντας" ------> "πολεμώντας"
"ζόμπυ" ------> "ζόμπι"
"βασιλιά δαίμονα" ------> "Δαίμονα Βασιλιά"
Also it will be prettier if you aligned your paragraphs to be more like rectangle shaped by using the MS Word's button "Justified"
The english wording is taken from the classic NES description, the gramma maybe better, but this wording give it a little authenticy. I did try the justified paragraphs, but didn't like the look. I'm happy with this version now, working on Skeet Shoot, Enforcer and Burnin Rubber again. :)
Editing the greek typos are high hopes then? :)

Do you want the official french text translation form it?
EDIT : The official french text is awful... :-X
I'll edit the greek ones if that's right, but I'm happy with it was it is

A 464+ can play any cart game for the GX4000. A modern remake for the old school CPC would be interesting, but I suspect it'd need to go a least 128K to get a good version (and even then isn't ever go to be as fluid as the GX version)

Kudos for this one! Much better. Maybe the word "ονόματι" is a little exaggerated, as you can write simply "με τον βασιλιά των δαιμόνων... Astaroth"
Just out of curiosity, is the "kidknapped" spelling error present in the original? If not, that should probably be fixed if possible. It should be "kidnapped."

Hello and welcome to cpcwiki.
What is the reason to truncate a 256K game to fit 128K ? :-\
If you are using an 1Mbit EPROM, it will not works for that reason.

The ROM size on a Plus/GX4000 can be up to 512KB. You just need an EPROM which can store 256KB to burn it.
Quote from: tjohnson on 11:10, 23 December 20It will fit on a 1001
... so I assumed some padding in the CPR file.
Nevertheless, I was using a 2 Mbit Flash and burned an untruncated 256 kB bin file obtained from the CPR file using CPR Tools. Maybe the problem was I used 39SF020 Flash instead of 27C020 / 27C2002 EPROM, but the pinout is compatible.
The PCB LK are properly set to address the 256K ROM?
I'm using a cartridge PCB from this topic:

There are no jumpers/solder links to be set.
