Thought it might be an idea to post a list of games that are currently missing in action throughout the community, just in the off chance that we have someone browsing through here who has a rare game tucked away that they didn't know about.  This list has been cribbed from Nich's list on NVG (with games that have found their way on to CPC Power since the list being updated in 2008 removed).  This list is not exhaustive so please feel free to add any other games to this thread that might exist.  It should be stated that this release list may not be accurate and that the games listed below might not have made out on the CPC at all.  Games in italics were definitely not officiallyreleased for the CPC in any form, it is possible that they may exist in some form out there so, again, if you have any mysterious disks lying around please consult this list and the contents of your software... You never know...

I'll update this first post with more games as and when they are identified in this thread:

I believe I have this on cassette as part of a UBI Soft compilation, I'm fairly sure it'll be the 64k version too - so someone would be better finding the 128k disk version (in English of course).

TFM

And... German Version of Gunship is missing too.

This is good, but isn't it more suited for the wiki itself?

Ritchardo

It definitely has a place on the wiki (with more details about likely release dates - snippets from magazines and the like) but I also think that a list on the forum could be effecitve to catch the casual viewer.

For someone with a rare disk or tape, the only way they'd know that their game is missing from the archives is to visit the Missing in Action page (or whatever we'd call it) and check it out that way.  If there was also a pinned topic in the general games forum, they could click into that and check if their game is on the list.

Personally, if I had a pile of (for example) BBC Micro disks and I found myself on a BBC Micro fansite, I might look at a topic asking about rare disks and check that none of mine appeared on the list if I happened to be browsing.  I would be far less likely to search for missing games on the wiki in the off chance that I had one of them... in other words, the more obvious we make it to someone and the more often the information is posted, the greater the likelihood that we might find someone who has something rare.

It's also a good place to discuss whether a game has been released or not etc.

Gryzor

I see your point, I didn't say it shouldn't be here at all :) I'll see when I can start a wiki article copying the details from here!

We established earlier that Frak! was never released for the CPC, arnoldemu wanted to make a version for the CPC, though the author of the original game wouldn't allow it!  >:(  Maybe someone should call it something else which begins with "F" and ends in "K"!

Street Fighter II - did anything with that ever happen with that, or was that just U.S. Gold playing games with AA and it's readers!  >:(

Mega Twins - There was another thread about this game, ACU reviewed it and there was a screenshot, the mind boggles.

AA prolonged the SF2 hype long after it had been dropped to keep people buying the mag.

Well it's kinda sad it came to that, though that hype wouldn't have stopped me buying the magazine, true there were probably the pureists who were buying the mag til the end and the rest who would have made up the numbers to make the magazine worthwhile.

Well, I would have thought that those having a CPC and still buying the mag would continue to do so, what with it being the only one left...

Never got rid of my CPC even though it's been packed away for a while!  :'(  Lots of people would of got rid of their CPC for Amiga's, Super Nintendo's, Sega Megadrives (Genesis) PC's and Mac's at the time and eventually people would of got PC's or Mac's just to get the Internet just to keep up with the Jones!  :o

I have recently been playing some of those olde games that were impossible to complete in the day (due to many reasons) and are quite possible today (due to snapshots!). Two of these titles were ROLAND IN TIME and the sequel, ROLAND IN SPACE. Now, at the end of the second game it says that ROLAND WILL RETURN in ROLAND'S REVENGE. Did this game ever see the light of day?

For those who are interested in seeing the end screens for these two Amsoft giants, without the sheer tedium of actually playing them, then hit these image-links;

perhaps you could send them to cpcpower ;)

Hello,

Colbert from Ere informatique exists and has been sold in the past in France (not very well I suppose, as it's just a personnal account utility).
An original disk release has been sold a few weeks ago on Ebay.fr (I was unfortunately not the winner :-( I hope that the guy who is now the lucky owner of this program will dump it... ).

I can think of something else missing from the CPC community.

The disc images (.DSK) for the Dixons Top 10 collection (red & yellow box) - it was a free 'chuck in' compilation that I got with my CPC6128 when purchased new from a certain electrical retailers - it featured Batman, Head Over Heels, Arkanoid, Game Over 1 & 2, Freddy Hardest 1 & 2, Tank, Madballs, Phantom Club and Legend Of Kage (I think I've missed one, as I've counted 9 games there!!!)

If it helps, I can lend somebody the discs, for purpose of making disc images, but one of my discs has got damaged (the metal shutter has popped out of place and is preventing the disc rotating.

There was also a tape version of the same collection (which I also have, got it from evil bay recently, this features 20 games so there's a few more than the collection above).

This can be fixed, buy cutting the disc plastic box, and getting rid of the metal piece. Then (after gluing or taping) first make a backup copy :-)

Also missing - UK version of Night Hunter

Do we have working disk dumps of Alien Storm and Outrun Europa yet? (both from US Gold)

Gryzor

I can make images of these disks, of course, but I wouldn't want to take the responsibility for hacking the disk...

A demo version of Mega Twins on the CPC DOES exist as confirmed by one of my friends on World of Spectrum. I'm waiting for him to send me a copy.

What about an English version of Iron Lord (UBI Soft)?

Seems highly likely since ACU reviewed something along those lines.

I think this is one of those games where AA reviewed it, were totally impressed with it and were under the impression it was going to be written for the English, only to discover that it wasn't going to happen down the track and I think had to break the sad news. Though it may not be a total loss, eventually it may be fully interpreted into English perhaps?  ???

Can you upload / post a .DSK of it? Pictures tell nothing about the gameplay.

I downloaded the French Mistress recently and it says that it is also available for Spanish, German and Italian.  However the Italian version seems unavailable (and little trace of on the internet - only one reference).  Does anyone know if it saw the light of day?

James Hooper

Hi, I'm James, one half of "Bandit Video Games" .. along with my amazing friend David Harper. We created "Dusk Over Elfinton" on the Spectrum.

Only 10 minutes ago I spotted a magazine advert for Skyslip Software that I'd never seen before, where they stated that the game would soon be released for the Amstrad and ST.

I can tell you that we never released (or even worked on) these versions of the game. Whether Skyslip contracted anyone else to write these versions, I couldn't tell you.

Skyslip paid us for the rights to distribute our game under their name, but went out of business fairly quickly.

As much as I'd love our game to exist in some kind of twilight zone for the Amstrad, I'd be more inclined to say that an Amstrad version of Dusk does not exist, but you never know :)

Cheers,
James :)

That's a shame. I know that Amstrad Computer User reviewed two other adventure games by Skyslip - The Lost Legacy of Xim and Rick Shaw in A Simple Case of Espionage - but I have never seen either of them anywhere. Do you know if the CPC versions of these games ever existed? I guess that, as was the case with Dusk Over Elfinton, Skyslip folded and the opportunity to release the games was lost.

Interestingly, both of these games are listed as "missing in action" on World of Spectrum, although hints for A Simple Case of Espionage were published in Crash!, which suggests that at least the Spectrum version was released - but it must be extremely rare!
