The multitasking operating system SymbOS just got even more interesting with the release of a Sega Columns remake created by Edoz. Sega Columns is created with the Unify IDE which will be released later this month as a public beta release together with a SymbOS 3.0 beta.
The new beta release of SymbOS will have a network stack onboard and some other nice new features! Because of the upcoming network support in SymbOS the next game project is already started / in development!  It's called "Battle Ship!" The famous classic game comes to SymbOS where there is a possibility to play with other players using the new network daemon for SymbOS. Currently Prodatron is working on the network daemon where Trebmint is developing the network support in Unify and Edoz is putting it together in the form of Battle Ship in Unify. It is really a team that works together on all different levels, low-level, middle-level and development in Unify.
For now we hope that you enjoy this remake of Sega Columns which can be downloaded

Isn't this crazy? Within ONE week we have:

- Oceano made by EgoTrip using AGD
- Platform Climber made by Ronaldo using CPCtelera
- Columns made by EdoZ using Unify/SymbOS

This new way of making CPC software is awesome!  :D

Maybe, but the C64 and ZX push it aside with their eye opening releases. The Amstrad CPC has all that coloured eye candy and proper scrolling that can be used, yet sadly isn't so much.

I don't like the zx and a c64 even In a million years over a cpc464 (not mentioning the 6128)...

currently i'm porting spectrum code to cpc code and... arghhh what a cheap toy de zx is, wtf with those attributes and the crazy screen memory layout, in what purpose? the screen memory layout of the cpc is million times better (and flexible).

And not mentioning too, well yes, that the zx (and the c64) can't have symbos because of the memory limitations or cpu (6502 shame cpu)... and the colours of the C64 oh my god... or even the attributes that the c64 has too...

hence here we have a computer that is a toy (zx) and a (not) computer that is a console (c64) with horrible colours and sprites way more limitated that any other console of the market...

As i said in a million years or in a million times i'll never  put the ZX or the C64 above the CPC. I don't mind how many new games they will have, as i don't like (and never will) the colors, the graphics, the horrid sprites... i don't want this games, i prefer "oh mummy" over any game of this 2 machines.

good I have my tantrum of the week with CPC vs the world!  :P

Couldn't describe the technical part in a better way  :D

Well, there are nice games on the C64 (Soulless) and the ZX (Los Amores de Brunilda). Specially Brunilda makes nice use of the attributes to simulate dark areas, which would be more costly on a CPC. Also for a Symbos ZX version you could go for monochrome, PCW style, or use color attributes on window canvas aligned to 8 pixels.

Obviously, memory management is the big issue. Graphics, imho, not at all.

Exactly graphics would be 256x192x2, that's not a problem. It's not possible to align to 8pixels, as apps can be as flexible as possible, but the taskbar could have different colours like on the Enterprise :) Yes, the memory is the big issue.
