Hi all,

Another long time CPC fan here who's just joined the board, and is about to take the plunge into collecting my favourite system.

Looking forward to having some interesting discussions with you all!

Welcome to the forum!

You're about to take the plunge eh? do you have a CPC already, or are you planning to buy one?

I'm guessing you have a history with the CPC, as you describe yourself as a long time fan... what's your experience / memories of the system? (I first started using one when I was 6)

Hello and welcome...I noticed your Canadian flag on your profile ;-) (I live in Montreal / QC). I second @keith56 , I'm curious to know how did you meet the Amstrad :)

Hey,

Thanks for the welcome. I live in Montreal now but I'm originally from England, and the CPC was my first computer when I was about 12. All my mates had Speccies but there was something about that Amstrad that I loved (even though I was unfortunate enough to have a green screen). I haven't picked up an original machine as they're hard to come by here but I'm picking up a few of the old magazines and even a couple of games, especially ones with proper old-school manuals, to scratch the collecting itch.

It would be great to hear your first memories too, especially you, norecess, as you're in the neighborhood.

I wrote my memories down in 8-bit Memoirs issue #1.

Hoping other people will author additional issues.

Hello @SharkusMaximus I grew up in France, the Amstrad being my first computer (where I learnt how to program a machine).
Then I moved here in Quebec in 2003. Got some interest in retro-programming in 2007 and one year later, I bought (on eBay, imported from France) the real machine!! (it's running using a 220V->110V converter).
I was finally able to participate to some events lately and meet some people of the Amstrad community (the Revision 2018 in Germany, and the Alchimie in France this year). There is nothing interesting about Amstrad here in Canada. :)

@norecess: Great to hear I'm not the only one here!

Actually in Montreal, there is also Ramlaid/Arkos (inactive demomaker). Another "Amstradist" is also there, owner of RetroGamer.ca, using only French language. A few other persons know the Amstrad in the videogame industry. 1 lead programmer at Eidos Montreal was the programmer behind NoExit (Amstrad GX-4000 game). Eidos also has another Amstrad programmer that was behind few commercial games for the Amstrad. Finally, there is my friend Herve Lange, working at Autodesk, author of the game "Fer & Flammes" (UbiSoft) on Amstrad CPC.

And that's all for the entire Canada map.  ;D
