Post by: Sacrosanct on 19:38, 10 January 18
Does anyone know where I can download CPC tunes from (and I mean a source other than YouTube)?

Thanks in advance

Hi
This site has both Spectrum & CPC chip music and AY Chip music players.

I have added this as the ftp at WoS is broken.

Many of the game pages on CPC-Power have the music available in the very compact YM format that you can either play right there on the page or download (by clicking the animated floppy disk character by each tune) and play in a program such as XMPlay.

For example here's the page for Glider Rider (which has fantastic tunes).

There are these:

http://www.bannister.org/software/ao.htm

Can't comment on how either of them work as I've not tried myself!

Oddly enough, some files on CPC Power need to be extracted first to .ym5 files otherwise ymplayer refuses to play them.
e.g.  music from Mask III Venom Strikes Back will not play from the downloaded .ym file until it gets extracted.

Yes you would need an AY player to use them and there are a lot of AY files in the archive, and many are Spectrum rather than CPC.It is quite interesting if you go into Composers/Musicians and navigate to David Whittaker there is the CPC & ZX versions of Xenon and it's interesting to hear the variance in the sound between the two i prefer the CPC's sound.
