Hi, I recall having an old commodore computer in storage now. I've recently became intrigued by the unique GX4000 console, but I do like the old Amstrad games on magnetic Cassette Tapes.

Can I hook up a cassette tape drive to a GX6400? If not, the plus line of computers? What is the best computer to play a cassette game on?

In a last resort, Can someone convert a game to GX4000 format on eprom?

It's a pleasure to meet you all, I'm just a gamer so please don't grill me too much, pleasure to meet you all.

If I want to play an original Amstrad cassette game with the best video output possible, Which computer would you all advise? Doesn't matter if I need an external drive.

Bryce

Hi,
welcome, and you are excused (although I'm not sure what for). Technically you could connect a tape deck to a GX4000, but it would be a lot of work for nothing, because you'd need to convert all the games to make them GX4000 compatible.
Regarding game conversion to GX4000 cartridge compatibility, you need to contact gerald about getting a C4CPC and then look here:

For original cassette games, you'd be best off just getting a 464.

Welcome aboard.

You've a few options, Bryce listed two of them.

You could also go for 6128+, you'd lose your tape drive but you could hook up a hxc or an m4 externally and experience faster load times, almost ever game out there is on the likes of NVG or CPC-power. If you really wish to play tapes with an external tar player, you could add a DIY tape port mod but it really would be a load of hassle for something that's not really worth it.

I went for the 6128+ for one room and a GX4000 for the other and haven't looked back.
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

Thanks for all the helpful info. :)

Another stupid question, Can I put one of those converted roms directly onto an eprom for a dedicated single-game GX4000 cart?
