MrBlueSky

Hello everyone, MrBlueSky reporting from Paris, the city I finaly settled down after living abroad during my childhood and my studies (mainly in Germany). I did'n grew up with 8bit or 16bit cumputers (my parents bought a PC in 1998) and videogames were not really allowed at home.  However my brothers and I managed to collect some retrogaming stuff before it became mainstream and each time the parents left the house we invited some friends for great retro-sessions :)

3 years ago I offered a CPC 464 to my brother for christmas since he was fascinated with the design and the colors of the keyboard. Little did I know that this would be the begining of an amazing journey in the Amstrad world. Jealous of my brothers 464 I bought a 6128 and started to explore the enormous library of games and programms.

Here is a picture of my first setup in 2016 at my parents place  ;D A laptop with games in mp3 format --> a cassette with jack adapter --> a tape recorder connected to the 6128. I still have to install a external Gotek and to repair the floppy disk drive.

The last two years the 6128 stayed in my parents attic and meanwhile I also settled with my girlfriend. She "allows" me to have a few systems in our appartement and luckily for me, she loves the shape of the CTM 644. I'm currently trying to make it my main monitor for retrogaming. It works great for the Mega Drive and the NES but I have issues with the Dreamcast. Looking for solutions I stumbled on this topic started by CraigsBar in 2014. This helped me a lot even if I still have problems with the colors displayed on the screen.

In order to find a solution, and because CPCWiki already helped me a lot in discovering the Amstrad scene I decided to join the forum. After solving this Dreamcast issue my goal is to start with some Chiptune and Pixel Art on the CPC, and I know I'll find a lot of infos here.

Cheers

Neat story. Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Amstrad.

Gryzor

Welcome mate! Thanks for sharing your lovely setup and history!

Regarding monitors, though of course I'm a CPC fan, dare I suggest a 1084 instead? It's a great monitor for use with multiple machines, and the built-in speakers are good, too. Mine also has a "green" button which turns the screen green - what more could I ask for :D

MrBlueSky

Thank you for the warm welcome Ilopis and Gryzor. Did'n knew about the 1084 monitor, sounds like a great solution. However one of my goal is to find a use for all those CTM laying around in the nature  :D  Maybe we can convince fellow retro-gamers that they can use those as RGB monitors without to much of a hassle.
