Not until you pointed it out.

Was that the site with all the Homebrew Software Reviews? I'll answer my own question with a No, that's Homebrew.at site.

Unsure what Push 'n' Pop had on their site.  :(

CPC demoscene stuff, basically.

Archive.org seems to have a pretty complete snapshot from back in August.

PnP was mostly demo stuff with a lively community, but also discussions on homebrew hardware projects if I recall correctly. A shame...

Why? Maybe because it's not funny in the least :D

It would be more acceptable to suggest the Illegal box of Fireworks sitting next to the Server were set alight.

But then no Server no domain?

I read and thought that eating too much and puking over the server was the joke. :) It sounds too crazy to be true.

Loosing a backup and not being able to restore it is not funny, but then if it is a joke this is added for more effect.

I thought of the old times when a student friend ran an internet service provider and the server was in their room. If they accidentally kicked it, everyone was off line. Ooops!

Now a lot of servers are in a remote location, and the only way to stop that is hacking not puke ;)

It's sad to see the CPC community shrink. :(

I hate to say it, but as we all get older, it probably won't get any better.

Funny, I have kind of the opposite perception, as I just wrote about in my project "8bit Stories".
This "2nd CPC era" as I'm calling it, seems to be growing all the time with new games and new hardware projects coming out all the time.
I think it's an awesome time to be a CPC enthusiast in.

It's quite possible that the actual size of the community isn't as big as in the old days, but to me it feels bigger than in the old days because we have easy access to communication with each other now.

I agree. I'm 43 and and I'm seeing much younger people around here with much enthusiasm and talent. Especially contribution from countries such as France and Spain is so encouraging (same as 25 years ago)

The CPC community as a whole may not shrink that much (quite the opposite I think too). The demoscene part of it on the other hand ... might be better off doing their thing than maintaining a website.

RIP.

Well, hopefully they'll post their news here like they did this year.

If you miss the graphical side, you can still admire Barjack's work at CpcTrolls (Beta version) (http://amstrad.org/cpctrolls) (of which PushNPop was only a pale copy)
Title: Re: Push'n'Pop - rip?
Post by: Gryzor on 08:57, 13 January 16
@TotO (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=290) : that's clever and sad at the same time.

@PulkoMandy (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=26) : huh, never knew of that site before... what is it? Seems empty?
Title: Re: Push'n'Pop - rip?
Post by: PulkoMandy on 13:55, 13 January 16
Yes, cpctrolls was never completed, it is only an empty shell experimenting with Barjack's crazy ideas. The same design was later reused for Push'n'Pop with a lot less functionalities.

Yes, it is sad, and tons of content not archived elsewhere has been lost (articles, technical posts, report of parties, ..).

BTW, as a side effect, all prods from pouet linked to pushnpop are no more available to download (I guess it is most of the prods since the creation of pushnpop).
Admins of pouet do not want to make links to cpc-power which has too much captchas and cpcwiki does not seem appropriate for file sharing...

I honestly thought it was a joke that pushnpop is no more because the writing on the website sounded funny.

You could always upload them here. I don't know about linking them to pouet though, maybe you'd have to speak to Gryzor about that.

Couldn't it be possible to recover most of the content from the Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/web/20150827210126/http://www.pushnpop.net/)? Latest image is from July 2015.

I know it is a lot of work to put a new server up again (maybe involving coding again some lost parts), but it seems possible IMHO.

Just suggesting :).
Title: Re: Push'n'Pop - rip?
Post by: arnoldemu on 10:11, 15 January 16
More sections could be opened on the forum here and the articles could be hosted here on the wiki.

If a new pushnpop is planned on it's own server it would be easier if you could use an existing forum software and just add a custom skin because that would save a lot of programming time trying to reproduce the features of other forums.  :)

When will the 30 years of cpc demo be completed?

Title: Re: Push'n'Pop - rip?

@arnoldemu (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=122): For the 30YM I need the final version of the menu (the most beautifull I have ever seen but the current version does not load parts) to test it on different real hardware. All parts are finished, but I have not included the last version of Benediction one. The cat art is done. The options are managed. The demo does not work very well on emus (except on ACE).
3 sides will be necessary

@hicks If pnp moderator agree, I also think it would be interesting to copy the articles and party reports on the wiki

Quoteif god wants
... hm, I guess we can do with a bedtime prayer to speed up the finalisation of the megademo (in a certain blasphemous French magazine tradition):

Now the light has gone away;
Savior, listen while I pray.
Asking Thee to save and keep
their files on disk before they sleep.

Jesus, Savior, wash away
All the nasty bugs to-day;
Help them everyone to be
more productive, more like Thee.

Let our dear CPC be
Also near and dear to Thee.
O bring me and all on this forum
a megademo we all can cheer on.

(ok, ok, the last stanza is a bit rough, with an off rhyme at the end. It shows, I'm no native speaker.)

Is there a backup somewhere of the cpcscene/pushnpop FTP archive? In particular I'm looking for the party pictures which were hosted there. We should probably upload those to slengpung instead.
