On a CPC colour monitor what are the physical dimensions (inches or centimetres) of a Mode 2 screen, I know it is  composed of 640 x 200 pixels but how does that translate on-screen?
I don't have access to a CPC at the moment or I would check it myself.

It's not fixed, it depends on the montors settings. For example, VR406 sets the width and (can't remember the component No.), but there's a height adjust in there somewhere too.

So, let's get the values of more monitors, so we can make some statistic and get mean values.

And what exactly would that tell us? Especially as these values will vary by themselves over time. It would be more useful to know the upper and lower limits of the height and width.
This, by the way, was the reason why you needed to adjust the settings for security systems like the LensLok.

Software will be best when knowing mean values. Extreme values are worthless, because there will only be one person using it.

Yes, but then you know the true ranges it could be. Software works in pixels anyway and won't change no matter what the analogue values on the physical screen are. As the monitor isn't calibrated, the CPC is useless when it comes to a real physical dimension, ie: displaying a known 3cm line on the screen is impossible.

Of course all monitors are somehow different, however it would help to get closer to "reality" in some cases f.e. technical drawings. Guess only few users play around with their monitors (sadly I'm one of them  ). Also we need to take into account that CTM644 and the Plus CM14 will be different.

For technical drawing software it would be better to integrate a calibration into the software, with something like a square on the screen that you could manually adjust width and height until it was exactly 2x2cm or something similar.
