I think the CPC would have been rated in seconds-per-frame if it had tried to replicate the arcade experience!
But yeah, it's a standard 8-bit race-track algorithm with some ground texturing effects (which work great on the CPC, and terribly on the Spectrum due to colour clash), and the tracks are pretty short too. I think it worked better than the brute blitting fest of the 16-bit versions which simply couldn't recreate the arcade's dedicated hardware.
I remember that ACU used to have an arcade section, and this game was once featured. At the time it amazed me.
