Title: ChinnyVision: Shao-Lins Road

I guess the fact the CPC got power ups (unlike the C64) makes up for the awful loading screen and narrow play field!

It's alright but very repetitive. I played it a fair bit on my CPC but today the lack of variety means its only good for a short blast. The power-ups are the best part of the game which is why it's annoying they are missing from the C64 version.

I am sure the C64 version had the power ups in it.

They are certainly mentioned in the manual.

Yep definitely got power ups although I never saw the "ball of energy being shot across the playing area". My character just changed to flashing/interlaced and I was briefly able to shoot fireballs or bouncing bombs, I was playing using an untrained version.

That's weird. I'll need to re-look at it. Do the enemies throw out the power-ups like on the CPC? Played it for quite a while, trained for the recording but untrained for playing beforehand and didn't see a thing.

Just checked another video and it looks like the extra weapons work via the standard fire button like the CPC. So I wouldn't have been able to avoid having them.


Faulty image? Wouldn't be the first time its happened. When I reviewed Space Harrier 2 it had no enemy sprites at all. The image worked fine under emulation but on both of my C64's it lacked all the enemies.


I'll go back and take a look and see if I can run another image.

To be fair, it's a conversion from a 1985 arcade, and a load of coin ops were VERY simple.
The original was repetitive too, but it did get harder as the levels progressed.

Got this as part of the Konami Arcade collection compilation, killed many an hour with it. :)

I had fun playing this as a kid. I know it's only a bit of fun, but the only problem when people do these kind of reviews is that they haven't taken the time to learn the in-game moves (Constructive Criticism). The Amstrad version does indeed have more moves including a flying kick, plus every time the reviewer collected a power up, he just fired it off and let it go, without understanding the full potential of the power up. Technically, his presentation and everything looks good, but on this occasion, I'm afraid it comes across as a poor review, when it could have been so much better, with just a little more thought.


I quite like the style of Xyphoe's reviews and longplays. I know these are a different type of video, but I like how much more in depth his video's are and he clearly spells out how to properly play the game.

A replay of a "1-minute challenge" for the X360 Arcade Room version. I was quite proud of this little run-through!
The "pro-gamer" who challenged me could only match my score..He later removed me from XBLive friends-list because of it! Ha!

Gotta agree here, if you don't know the controls and how to fully play the game, best not to review it.
I remember one dude trying to play Renegade forgetting that he had to use the three buttons on the keyboard.

He literally thought all your character was supposed to do was walk around a train station with his hands in his pockets!  :laugh:
