Hi, any specific instructions to fix an unreliable PCW space bar? It only works with a hard hit.

I can't even get it off (that's what she said), and it feels like it will break if I lever any harder. (She didn't say that.)

Perhaps it's the same as the CPC?

Most spacebars will have clips at both ends holding them in place and also a metal bar which makes sure the entire bar stays level when you press it. To remove it, you lever each end gently and when it has come loose you need to unclip the bar to remove it completely. However, the problem is usually under the keyboard (dirty membrane) which you can clean without remove the individual keys, just remove all the screws from the lower side of the keyboard.

Well, I finally got to this. Unfortunately leavering both ends up resulted in breaking the hook clips, but I was able to stick them back together. However I am really stuck about how to get those clips back onto the metal bar. I've tried with tiny tweezers and a watch screwdriver but they just won't lineup whilst I can hold the bar up, and when I let go the bar just drops down. Anyone out there done this before?

You just put the bar into the two clips and then push the spacebar back down. As the wife suggested last weekend... Try doing it from a different angle (ie: balance the keyboard on it's top end).

Haha. Very hard to explain, but the clips are too long to go through the black base holes if the bar is in the position you need it . The clips will only go through the holes if the bar is already clipped in, but you can't clip it in unless it's already through the holes . Catch 22.

Yes, you need to fish the metal bar out of where it is in the picture. Then hook the plastic clips around it, then push the spacebar back in place.

It won't fish out, because it's longer than the black plastic on its left and right . I think I have to unscrew the whole thing 🤦‍♂️

?? It has to fit out as far as those two black stoppers, in normal use it needs to move up and down with the key. You may have to un clip it from the back, install the key top and then re-install the bar from the back.

I have a PCW Plus magazine guide to removing all the keys on a PCW keyboard and it neglects to mention the space bar. I'm guessing it stumped them too.

Great stuff. If Ladyfractic has repaired it you know it's been done properly. I actually did spill hot chocolate on my PCW keyboard as a kid.
