You may be aware that last June I started a Youtube channel which was dedicated to reviewing games using the original hardware. I originally envisaged it as an occasional thing just covering the CPC, Speccy and a few other machines. But it quickly expanded to a once a week thing covering as many formats as I could manage. CPC, Speccy, C64, BBC Micro, Amiga, Acorn Electron, various Sega machines, MSX and so on.

It's fair to say I got a little carried away and ended up with multiple capture setups for different machines. I even spent the best part of 9 months trying to capture RGB from the Spectrum which I finally managed last month.

Now nearly a year on the channel has grown to around 1000 views a week and still places the CPC at the forefront. As a CPC owner since 1985 I was always bitterly disappointed at the shoddy coverage the likes of C+VG gave the machine so this is my multi-format opportunity to ensure the machine gets decent coverage.

If you look at the channels format playlist, I think you'll notice which machine comes out top!

As time has gone on its fair to say things have got a little out of hand. Different capture setups, more machines, launching a website, buying production elements for the videos etc. A typical multiformat review requires about 2.5 hours of capture and another 3 hours to edit it all together. Remember this is all original kit so machines need to be moved around, capture configurations changed and I can only load games from tape on some machines. For IK+ last week I had to get my 464 out and use a car cassette adaptor as the dsk image wouldn't load into my 6128.

I now want to expand the channel again. I did the joystick review the other week which was the first live action review. I'd like to do more of these. Tear downs of machines with longer videos. I'd also like to add Atari ST coverage (and perhaps even GX4000 coverage one day) but I'm now at a stage where I can't do this on my own.

The Patreon won't impact me posting a new video to Youtube every Friday (advert free). But supporters will get exclusive videos and early previews. There are rewards as well from my personal games collection.

If you can support, please do. If you can't, please just spread the word about the Youtube channel and subscribe.

Thanks.
