Hello All,
As mentioned, I've gone back to Kickstarter for the second issue of Colour Personal Computing.
The campaign is now live at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/803660556/colour-personal-computing-issue-2 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/803660556/colour-personal-computing-issue-2)
This time the fanzine is in full colour and you can look forward to content such as:
- A feature on cart conversions for the GX4000 with C4CPC
- An in-depth look at the M4 board expansion
- An exclusive preview article from the forthcoming 8-bit Memoirs (thanks Mr_Lou!)
- Part two of our floppy emulation feature - adding an LCD display and buzzer to the GoTek
- A look at new website Everygamegoing
- Reviews of the latest CPC games including Magica, Imperial Mahjong, Adios a la casta and more!
- Part two of our exciting action/drama serial, The (Alex) Van Damm Chronicles.
It should be a 40 page extravaganza of CPC related content.
Thanks again for your support!
Backed!
I'm going for that collectors edition; colour version of issue 1. :)
I also backed it and went for the color version of issue one! ;D
I'm in!
I'm in. I want that colour copy of issue one.
Edit: I was the last one for that reward. Just in time.
And the project has been successful already! :D
Thanks for your support everyone - the project hit its Kickstarter target in under 12 hours, I certainly wasn't expecting that!
Oh I'm gutted, I missed out on the colour version of issue 1. :picard2:
Oh well, I have backed the 4 issue sub instead. 8)
But please do let me know if you reprint more issue 1s in colour. ;)

Well that would make it the "B&W Personal Computing Teaser" wouldn't it?
We're now into the final 10 days of the Kickstarter!
Numbers are looking a little down on issue 1 in terms of copies, but there's still some time left :)
Thanks for your support!

What do you mean by this? That fewer people has bought issue 2 compared to issue 1?
Yes exactly, perhaps it's not to everyone's taste?
Lots of subscriptions though, so the long-term prospects are looking good.
For issue 2:
32 copies sold through Kickstarter (vs. 55 for issue 1)
13 copies sold through the website (approx) (vs. around 15 for issue 1)
The numbers are no problem for printing the fanzine, but it's nice to reach as many people as possible :)
Pledge made & eagerly awaiting a copy :) .
Thanks Simon, I hope that you enjoy it :)
Backed! Look forward to seeing the magazine!
We're now approaching the final 24 hours of the Kickstarter campaign for issue 2.
There's still time to bag yourself a copy at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/803660556/colour-personal-computing-issue-2 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/803660556/colour-personal-computing-issue-2)
For our feature on converting games to run on the GX4000 (via a C4CPC) I've been busy working on a .CPR version of Potsworth & Co which I'll post here once it's working 100%. I think I'm half-way to learning the fundamentals of Z80 Assembler from looking into this which is a bit of a bonus!
I've been working on a couple of 'improvements' to the original where possible....

Looking forward to reading it!
Just an update on Issue 2...
We've snagged a bit of an exclusive on an unreleased CPC game from almost 30 years ago, whose identity will remain a secret until the fanzine is published. We'll have a small feature on it, some words from the developer and a review inside the fanzine. Oh, and we'll let you know where to download it :)
If you missed the Kickstarter then you can still order your copy of issue 2 (in full colour!) from http://www.cpcfanzine.com/ (http://www.cpcfanzine.com/) :)
EDIT: I wrote 20 years originally, I meant 30!
Ooh an exclusive!
Well done, looking forward to getting it :)
My colour copy of issue one has arrived and it looks fantastic.
Such an improvement.
The print quality is great and everything just stands out more.
It certainly helps with screenshots.
The Amstrad is known for its bright colours and the 27 of them look great especially for the Dooms Day review.
I am more than happy to pay extra for future issues to be in colour.
Thanks Sean, really glad that you liked it! It was quickly produced as a proof of concept to see if colour printing was feasible for future issues; the only real changes made were to adjust all photos and screenshots as they'd been tinkered with to print as well as possible in black and white.
Issue 2 onwards will make much better use of colour, and hopefully have more of the feel of a proper magazine.
Oh, and regarding issue 2, unsurprisingly (if you remember the wait for issue 1) it is running a little bit late. We've made a sudden decision to put our house on the market and move halfway up the country, so my personal life has been incredibly hectic and both my PC and CPC have been boxed up for the past week while we've had painters and decorators and cleaners in to make our current place as sale-worthy as possible.
I finally managed to put some decent time into the fanzine yesterday, and it's not a million miles from being finished. The majority of the articles are written, but some still need setting out and then it will need a good proof read.
Hopefully not too much longer....
I got Issue 1 in colour by mail a few days ago.
Wasn't Issue 2 supposed to be in the same envelope?
Issue 2 will be mailed separately, for some reason it's actually cheaper to post them that way (at least to outside the UK)...
Also, issue 2 is still being finished off so didn't want to make people wait for their issue 1 colour edition as well.
Any further news?
I don't want to make any promises, today is the first time in weeks that I've been able to sit down and spend some time on it.
It is nearly done, it's just finding the (any!) time at the moment. It will come out, and there will be further issues :)
Any news on this? :)
If James need help completing Issue 2, I am willing to help. I'm sure many others here would too. I know all too well how time can be in short supply when projects need to be finished. Issue 1 was great, and we certainly need a dedicated CPC fanzine.
PM me James, if you want me to submit something. I'm getting my own project proofread, so I have some free time.
Posted this update on the Kickstarter campaign page but will also post here for those curious as to the current status of the second issue:
QuoteHello All,
I know that you are all wondering why issue 2 hasn't yet imposed itself upon your doormat so I just wanted to let you know that it is still being worked on and will be finished in the hopefully-not-too-distant future.
The last 3 months have been ridiculous in my personal life; new house, new job and unfortunately my father has been in and out of hospital recently. And then to top it all off, bereavement following the loss of a dear friend a couple of weeks ago.
With everything happening I just haven't had the time to dedicate to the fanzine, but I'm determined to find the time over the next month or two to finally get issue 2 out of the door (and through yours). Writing it is something that I enjoy with a passion, and unfortunately I've just not been able to indulge in any of those in recent times.
Thank you for sticking with me during this time and not losing faith that the fanzine will come out. I'm sorry that I've been so crap at communication and letting you know the current status of the fanzine, I will endeavor to communicate more frequently as you all deserve to know what's going on.
Keep CPC-ing,
James.
I can relate.
I think most of us can.
My own project has also been delayed quite a bit due to multiple annoying unplanned happenings.
It'll be done when it's done. As long as nothing happens that completely kills the project, then we're happy. :)
So, I bring some news on Issue 2 of Colour Personal Computing....
IT'S DONE!
(apart from a final round of proof-reading)
I'll be scouring every page with a toothcomb over the next few days and then it will be off to the printers by the end of this week, so hopefully in your hands towards the end of the month.
If you backed via Kickstarter then you'll receive an update with details of updating your address details if required.
If you ordered your copy directly and need to update your address then please message me here or drop me an e-mail to let me know.
Work on issue 3 is already underway (actually, a lot of the groundwork, interviews, screenshots etc. have been completed for a while). If I do use Kickstarter for Issue 3, I won't be making the mistake of launching the campaign too early again as I know it's not been fair to keep the backers waiting all this time. It will be launched when the fanzine is in the final stages, so that I can ship shortly after the campaign finishes.
Thanks again for all of your support and I hope you enjoy the second issue.
P.S. If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you can order a copy directly from www.cpcfanzine.com - it has 40 A5 pages in full-colour.
"proof-reading" eh?
Yea... I remember those.
I had a lot of "final" proof readings for 8-bit Memoirs too.. ;)
Looking forward to receiving issue #2!!!

"proof-reading" eh?
Yep, some of the content was written quite a while ago - I'm hoping I won't come across too many pages of 'lorem ipsum'! ;D
If, when you say "final", it actually is final.... then my hat off to you sir.
I can't count the number of times I thought it was the final proof-reading....
Looking forward to it, Issue 1 was a good read and I'm sure Issue 2 will be even better. :)
Goodluck on Issue 3 too, :)
John
Ordered Issue 2 through the Website - looking forward to reading that. :D
Thanks Vyper.
The first issue is now available to read for free via Issuu: https://issuu.com/cpcfanzine/docs/cpc_fanzine_-_issue_1_bw

I promised the backers on Kickstarter that the colour edition of Issue 1 was 'Limited Edition' - so I'm staying true to my word ;D

I see. Don't remember that myself.
Can't imagine anyone would mind though, but I get it.

I probably cursed myself a bit in saying that as I found myself unhappy with one of the articles, rewrote significant portions of it and am now desperately trying to squeeze it back into the available page space without having to remove important images!
I have one hour to work on it now, hopefully I can get it how I want!

Oh I can relate!!! :)
That's the story of almost every single text in 8-bit Memoirs.
Wait a week or two. Read again. Change
a lot. Repeat.
It took forever before the amount of stuff I wanted to change every time was down to an acceptable size...
Courier turned up with a box of fanzines this morning....
Which means I can start sending them out today! (finally!)
Can't wait! :)
Oh yay!!!
Got mine today ;D
Zoot alors i shall be reading this toot suite.
Got mine just now too! \o/ :)
Looks awesome!
The back advertisement for 8-bit Memoirs should have said "Out now" instead of "Coming soon" though. Neither of us thought about that...hehe.

Very true... :picard:
Good to hear that people are receiving them. If anyone hasn't received their copy by the end of this week (UK) or the end of next week (elsewhere) then please do drop me a message!
Oh, and if anyone hasn't ordered a copy yet, there's still plenty available from http://www.cpcfanzine.com ;D
This should be sold out given how many people come on this site, there are not many, if any CPC printed magazine/fanzines out there, that i am aware of being based in Blighty.
Please, people really need to support these projects if they can.
BTW I had not heard of half of the European ( Spanish ) titles in there, sometimes you can forget that CPC went further afield.
Amazing work. I just ordered mine :-)
@Skunkfish (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=348) any chance of Issue 1 being available again in the future? I would love to get it too.

I've spent some time with issue #2 now, and I gotta say; issue #2 feels a lot more professional than issue #1 - no disrespect intended. But this feels like a pro magazine to me. It really makes a lot of difference with the coloured backgrounds. Awesome work!
And thanks a lot for the uplifting words about 8-bit Memoirs. :)
Thanks for pointing that out @mr_lou (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=96) But, if possible, I would prefer to have a dead tree version so that I can scam people at ebay in the future ;)
Received issue 2! I didn't have a chance to read it completely, but looks good. Worth the wait.
PS: I WANT MORE. Is issue 3 scheduled already?

It's possible, a couple of other people have asked as well. I was looking today and the print company I used for issue 1 can do low volume (20) for a reasonable price (in black & white).
Would anyone else be interested?

Cheers Juan! The Magica review was my favourite article to write :)
Issue 3 is being worked on, I'm at the fun stage of playing all of the wonderful games that have been released over the past 6 months or so!

I would get one if it was avaiable.
Got mine on Friday! Was hoping to read it over the weekend, but it'll have to wait...
Thanks so much :)
I just received my copy and I'm really impressed, it looks amazing! congratulations and keep the good stuff coming @Skunkfish (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=348)
Received my copy on the other side of the world! Well worth the wait, well done.
Thanks everybody for your kind words, really spurs me on to make the third issue even better! ;D
got mine yesterday.
really professional job. I'm enjoying it a lot :)
BTW, My wife has been reading it and she isn't really interested in computers!
(So if she's reading it then that is something!).
I just received another copy.
I know I'm a big fan, and contributor and advertiser, and of course also an overall awesome dude, and let's not forget: The famous author of 8-bit Memoirs. But I can settle for one copy per issue. ;)
Gonna give or lend out this 2nd copy to a mate of mine. Maybe it'll peak his interest enough to make him buy future issues. :)
I haven't received my issue yet. Maybe mr lou has it :D
Finished it today. Awesome issue, really!
Ok so I read mine like ages ago. But seeing how there is loads of comments on here saying how amazing it is I thought I might say how much I too enjoyed edition 2. Decent length reviews and even a wallys guide to the M4.
Great stuff
Cheers guys, it means a lot. :)
Any 3rd issue on its way?
Yes! ;)
If anyone has yet to pick up issue 2, it has now been reduced to the bargain-basement price of £2 (including postage to UK - add £1 for postage to Europe, £2 to rest of world). Check out https://www.cpcfanzine.com
The only estimate I can give is 2019...
