In about 2 weeks, the ReSeT #8 will open doors for 3 days of CPC...

This edition has an international-side with the presence of sceners or productions from 7 nations at least.
It's not too late to submit your entry for the competitions or to plan your trip to come to this meeting organized by the Benediction crew.

Eliot's meetings are always nice to go thanks to his organisation skills.

If he ever goes for "Président de la République", I will vote for him :-)

Nice event, nice peoples, and nice computers.

Great that! 464 and 664 are really outdated.

Quote464 and 664 are really outdated.
as we usually say...

CPC6128 and 6128PLUS are really the best Amstrad had to offer...
on board FDC, added RAM and even better CRTC.

I can't even understand why Amstrad didn't simply put 6128 motherboards (despite with a few less components, PLUS style) into the 464 casings after 1985...

664 is rare and actually a piece for museum and collectors...
464+ too, yet the motherboad have the slots to be upgraded into a proper complete PLUS.

and I really have compassion for those who can only get their hands on 464... I understand that depending to your contry you may have no choice, yet... To me it is an "unfinished CPC".

the CPC6128 is still the best CPC old...
compact design, more of everything, a dream come true.
easier for travel too.

The 464, an unfinished CPC? You must be kidding, surely. Just because the 6128 was better doesn't mean that in '84 the poor 464 was not a complete, fantastic machine...

The 464 is THE CPC!  :)

Bryce

The 464 was perfect for its time. The 6128 was an attempt at improving on perfection. It's a great machine but it failed. Technically it was more advanced, but it didn't have the character that the 464 had and still has.

Bryce.

TFM

Well, IMO it just depend which computer you had first. In my case it was the 6128. So I never got close to the 464, which was in my eyes imperfect, because it had no FDD. The CPC6128 is for me still just perfection, it can't be improoved - but expanded ;-)

I agree with Bryce and I gotta add that, you can say whatever you want but, the most iconic image representing Amstrad is the classic 464, period!  :P

Gryzor

I think we're swinging between extremes; the 6128 failed? You're kidding, surely. Just because the 464 looks better now (back in '86 the 6128 was the bee's knees) doesn't mean the 6128 was a failure!

"Tastes and colours"...

I chose the 6128 because it look more compact and professional than the 464 "Lego toy keys".
And mostly because in 1986, tapes are the past...

Sure, except 1 detail : the tapes are still produced !  :D
2010 : end of 3"5 disks production
2009 : end of 3"5 drive production
...

The main handicap of the 6128 was the 464  :P

Btw , who needs physical disks when we have HxC ?
"NOP" is the perfect program : short , fast and (known) bug free

Yeah, that was true for all popular 8-bit machines upgraded to 128 Kb. It even holds true for later Amiga models and Atari ST. Not one to my knowledge has managed to establish the later upgraded machine as the default machine coded for

I didn't mean it technically failed, but it just doesn't have the same nostalgic / iconic look of the 464.

I've never liked the look of the disc drives being a sticky-up lump stuck on the the side of the CPC. The 464 design is just perfect. The 664 gets away with having the ugly drive on the side because of the beautiful keys. The 6128 retains the ugly lump and makes the keyboard bland and uninspiring to look at.

Really the 464 is the true icon of the CPC range, even if the others are technically better.

TotO

The 464 look like a big toy. 6128 look professional.
So, it's realy depending of "tastes and colours" of each people.

The only 464 on the ReSeT stay on a plastic bag. Nobody use it today.
Instead of saying "the 464 is the best CPC", try to do stuff on it (programming tape Demo or games) to prove that.

And see you on the next ReSeT !!! :)

Hello,
I had a 464 when I was kid, later with a floppy drive... I sold it for an amiga in 1991
Today I have a 6128. despite all the memories I had with my 464, I don't buy one, and don't want it.
Like John Clesse said about Extreme sports:
"Where's the pleasure in that?"

I can't program in asm and I dont need it to say that 464 is the typical and iconic image of CPCs. For obvious reasons is better a 6128 but I don't love it as much as  the toy-looking CPC 464 (it was ment to be sold to kids and so its design makes sense).
