You storm into an office. You shout, rant and rave at a man sat behind a desk, and slam down a letter. You have resigned your job with British intelligence. You storm out of the office. You drive back to your home through the streets of central London in your Lotus Seven, followed by a black hearse. Inside, you collect your passport, an airline ticket and two suitcases. You must leave quickly. An undertaker enters the house. Gas is pumped into the room through the keyhole. Skyscrapers spin, you fall backwards...

"The Prisoner" is a text adventure based on the 60's cult classic TV series originally written for the Commodore 64 by the Commodore PLUS team. It has too a Spectrum version by Rockersuke in PAWS. A Spanish language version was released some months ago http://www.amstrad.es/juegosamstrad/decargajuegos/el-prisionero.php

You can donwload the English versión from http://www.amstrad.es/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3186&p=51122#p51122

Hey what? No more replies?

Going to give it a try tomorrow, thanks so much! Can i add it to the downloads section?

Gryzor

Thanks, uploading right away.

I have it loaded in WinAPE and will start playing in a few minutes :)

I think this could greatly benefit from a small redesign - I really don't understand the choice of mode 1 for text adventures...?

Well, this comes from a C64 adventure, 40 columns mode. I don't know if C64 supports more text columns as CPC does. Anyway, this adventure has few texts, a mode 2 let the screen empty.

Axelay

Is there a vocabulary list for this available somewhere?

I think the c64 does have some hacks for more columns, but not in any readable/practical way. Mode 2 is much more readable on the CPC, I find. But maybe it's just me. Having less text and more empty space could be solved by just adding the text to the screen instead of replacing. Or (major re-write) have a simple window system - one window for exits, another for inventory, such stuff...

No, Axelay, sorry. Anyway it's basic English, not strange words... Are you stucked at any point?

I dunno.  I've never much cared for Mode 2 and find reading fonts a lot easier in Mode 1.  I even set the Gargoyle adventure game engine thingy to use a CPC Mode 1 look (with dark blue background, yellow text and the standard CPC font. hehe)
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

Btw, our friend Nich reviewed the texts of the game. He did a great work :) Thanks a lot, Nicholas !!

No, not stuck at a specific point really.  Just hit a point where I found myself guessing parser vocab, and seemed to recall the few text adventures I'd played had come with lists of recognized words.

Hey, anyone spotted this in RG138?? :)

MiguelSky

Yes, I had already seen it, thanks Gryzor :)

CraigsBar

Please tell me 138 has not only just arrived in Greece? 141 popped through my door today complete with an interview with the genius' behind megablasters E.F.C.I.T.C. I only disagree with Harris K on one minor point. I think a lot of people who bought or played MB in the 90's are still in the CPC scene. Well I am at least and I love both games!

Haha no, it's just that I had a backlog of issues I'm working through (Retro Gamer issues, that is). Not enough time in the world :D
