QuoteDizzy fans it's time to really celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Dizzy in a really big way, as a very special Dizzy remake of ' Crystal Kingdom Dizzy ' on the ZX Spectrum, has only moments ago appeared in our news feed. The original CKD was first released in 1992 on a multitude of systems in a completely different graphical pallet than we were used to and some say worse than most of the other 8-bit Dizzy games of the time. But now that is all about to change as this ZX Spectrum version looks to be the best 8-bit styled version yet!

Ooooh those screen shots look nice.
Wonder if it could be ported over to the Amstrad easily enough though? Moreso to play it on my 6128+ than anything else. The original was an eyesore to look at.
Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

maybe we can ask for the source code?

I would really love to see this one ported, although I think that the CPC deserves a fully serious remake in Mode 0 and overscan  :) . I know that some people prefer Dizzy in Mode 1, though, in that case a clever use of dithering and split screen could be great!

In any case, Speccy's remake looks awesome!

No no no no NOOOOOOOOO!
I think one of the off putting things about that last Dizzy game was the lack of consistency in it's appearance. Colour isn't always everything, and four colour mode was fine for the series. Crystal Kingdom looked blocky, it moved awkwardly and was a complete stray from every other game in the series. At least this Speccy version looks like it fits in with the rest as opposed to being the redheaded stepchild.

Looks great for a Spectrum game making clever use of those godawful attribute restrictions.  I liked CPC CK Dizzy as it was even though some of the tile work could have made much better use of the Mode 0 palette advantages   It's probably my fave Dizzy to actually play since it's colourful, gave Dizzy a fresh new look since by that point I was absolutely bored sick of the constantly recycled Mode 1 look (with that darn green tinted freaky zombie look the Mode 1 Dizzy sprite had), lacks that annoying as hell rolling Dizzy does in the previous games so was much easier to control and take jump risks, and it has one of my all time favourite pieces of catchy chiptunery.  Leave it as it is.

Now a brand new Dizzy game would be nice.  But we'd argue as to what Mode it should be in and blah blah...

Even the Oliver Twins recent 'new' Dizzy games have basically been NES remakes of existing ones with Mystery World Dizzy being a loose remake of Fantasy World Dizzy with every nice graphics.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife
