Any good podcasts out there?

It's been quite some time since I last listened to a good retro-related podcast. You know, one with good content, where producers don't sound like they're drunk or speaking from the bottom of a well, where audio is not clipped at 16KHz, stuff like that... The last one I listened to was a (I think) quite popular Amiga one, where -it turns out- the guy did a review as detailed as was tedious of Barbarian, describing the graphics on the screen or the sound (but without playing even a second of game music! On an audio medium!!) etc etc, which bored me to death.

So, anyhow, any suggestions?

Nothing? No one?

Ah, I did listen to that episode, that was a nice interview indeed! Cool, will check out the rest of the series :)

The Retro Hour is one I listen to regularly, not sure if it's sort of thing you're looking for but I usually enjoy it, covers a wide range of stuff on there and has interesting guests and interviews. Seems to be one of the bigger, well established podcasts so it's professionally done as well, and some of the guests they've had on have been awesome.

There's a couple of others I listen to occasionally, mostly Amiga specific but I'd also be interested to see if there's others out there, especially if they had a fair bit of CPC related stuff, which seems less easy to find.

I hear them all the time at work in plague proportions, it's annoying for me because I can hear it, without hearing what's being said.  :(

Unsure if it's worth mentioning ANTIC The Atari 8-bit Podcast it has that drainage pipe sound and 3 guys talk about their Atari activity, I was listening to Episode 58 because the BASIC 10 Liners Compo came up, though after listening to over 30 minutes of other stuff, they finally get to it around 32:50 mark. All the information they go through has been from information posted on their forum along with information about Kevin's entries.

@Loki : thanks for that, I knew about it but had overlooked it. Listened to an episode yesterday and it was quite nice :) Thanks!

@AMSDOS : I prefer shows not so specific, unless it's on the CPC :D

Gryzor

Oh by the way, to answer to @Bryce  since I was reading something about it for work: there are now more than 500.000 live podcasts, with more than 2K added every week :D

I had no idea there are so many, to tell you the truth, the number surprised me.

AMSDOS

That's a huge volume of stuff to store in your head, I'm concerned that it maybe deleting other things that need to be remembered, despite not being qualified to make the call.

Supposedly, one of the sleep stages (REM?) makes room for new memories, so defrag and cleanup are on autopilot, don't worry :)

There was a time when I had to commute a lot and so I listened to many podcasts. I'll listen some here:
RCR - Retro Computing Roundtable: http://rcrpodcast.com
Retrobits Podcast (inactive?) - https://retrobits.libsyn.com
Stay Forever [German] - https://www.stayforever.de/
Scene World - https://sceneworld.org/
Some others have been mentioned above already.
Still others I must check in my backup from those times if I can find it.
There was a rather complete list of Retro Podcasts I've seen once but I can't find it anymore. Guess it was on twitter or so.

PS.: Sorry for the strange "plug-in" within the text. I don't know what the editor of this forum is doing in the background.

After hours of search I think I found at least one Tweet with lots of retro podcasts that I mentioned above.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I guess I'm covered for the foreseeable future :)

I enjoy listening to these guys. Good production quality.

And there's even a 3 part special about Amstrad vs C64 vs Spectrum games... A good laugh.

Gryzor

Ah yes, of course, the RA. Not all episodes are of interest, but this sounds pretty interesting :)

260Z

Yea, you'll have to use the search feature, on their website, to find all 3 episodes, as they're spread out over a couple of years. The final episode brings the BBC Micro into the mix.

Here is another nice list of podcasts with short descriptions:

That's from 2017, but content can't get much older, can it? :D :D

Thanks, that's a great resource!

Just a quick heads up, I know I mentioned this one before but this week might be of particular interest to people, as they've got Anthony Guter talking about and giving info on Mastertronic on this week's Retro Hour. Interesting interview, and I'm sure many of you here will remember that company if you grew up in the 80's, you probably had a fair few Mastertronic games given you could afford them with £2 pocket money! That's here anyway, if anybody wants to hear that....

Unfortunately there's no CPC focused podcast in English (AFAIK). In Spanish there are a couple now. This is the one I would recommend: http://www.cepeceros.com/

My fav gaming podcast is Cane and Rinse. Is not retro, but they do classic games too:

https://caneandrinse.com/

Is not only that the production quality is high, the discussions are usually very good. I've found that for some old games, the C&R episode is probably better than playing the actual game :D

Someone mentioned the Retro Hour. It has very good interviews, but I don't like too much the chit chat before that because too often they're not very well informed. It is easy to skip :)

Then there's Retro Asylum (also mentioned already), that is now a bit into a new generation of hosts; I like the Retro Gaming Club thing they do.

I also like RGDS (warning! some hosts have a thick Scottish accent! I personally love it, but I understand it may not be for everybody). It is a bit hit and miss, but some of the specials are very entertaining:

https://retrogamingdailyshow.libsyn.com/

Ten Pence Arcade is nice too: https://tenpencearcade.co.uk/

Released The Return of Traxtor, Golden Tail, Magica, The Dawn of Kernel, Kitsune`s Curse, Brick Rick and Hyperdrive for the CPC.

If you like my games and want to show some appreciation, you can always buy me a coffee.

Fun fact: because the first 8-bit wars of retro asylum I got the CPC bug, bought one, and made few games for the machine.

Also, this is my "peak famous": http://retroasylum.com/episode-179-juan-j-martinez-on-8bit-development/
