Since Juan has been kind enough to bless us with some cracking CPC games over the last couple of years, I thought I would put my inhibitions to one side and boot up a C64 emulator for the first time in more than a decade to play his latest release, Rescuing Orc.

It looks great (despite the dull C64 palette!) but I'm absolutely useless at it. Your character is equipped with a tiny sword and must be close to enemies to hit them, but I'm getting destroyed by enemies that take multiple hits to kill and it's tricky to avoid them by jumping over them.

Has anyone else tried this game and if so, any tips for me?!

Yes.. i bought it.. and had to find a trainer lol.. great game tho.

I would say:

• Get a good joystick (or use the keyboard). Some jumps are tight and there's no inertia and you have to "push" forward.
• Slash and retreat works for most enemies; they have different behaviour, so you have to learn that.
• The forest and the caves under it are the best place to learn to play the game. The bats may be hard to see at first, but they're always in the same place.
• Get familiar with the map and with what you have to do if you want to progress in the game.
• There are extra lives, get them and leave some "for later".

For some people is too difficult, for others it is just right. I'm still not sure, but I think it really depends how different people learn new things.

Once you master the controls (jumps, some are fiddly; sorry!), and find a generic strategy to deal with all enemy types (although some are easier if you approach them in an specific way); the game is easy and not too long.

At least this is what I've been told!
