Hi John,
hi CPC folks,

With the CP2102 adapter, I was able to upgrade the firmware on my ULIfAC with the one that was uploaded to @ikonsgr's Dropbox a few days ago. I don't really know if the updated version is different from the one that was pre-installed on my ULIfAC when I got it in early April, but the upgrade worked fine according to the software. I connected Tx from the adapter to Tx from the ULIfAC and Rx to Rx. Apparently this was correct.
I'm absolutely delighted with the ULIfAC and can highly recommend thinking about buying it if someone is considering equipping a CPC with a Gotek and/or a RAM expansion or similar. I also think that such work needs to be supported. :) Now I just hope that there will soon be a solution for Pinball Dreams and the memory problem associated with it, so that the game will also run with the ULIfAC.

Apart from that, I'm also thinking of buying an additional CPC 6128, but we'll see. :)

Thank you very much for your help and your friendly support! :)

Kind regards from Germany

Programming / bits 5 and 3 of F register on ...
Last post by Fran123 - 19:08, 23 April 24
Hello

I noticed the bits 5 and 3 of register F changes on LDI and LDIR instructions, but I couldn't find a pattern of behaviour.
The only I was read about  that bits is  "The values of bits 7, 5 and 3 follow the values of the corresponding bits of the last 8 bit result of an instruction that changed the usual flags."

Does anybody know how they behave?

Thank you

Just went through the SMS one. It doesn't really go very deep but it's still well written and very interesting to read!

Hey guys, I just found this website: https://classic.copetti.org/writings/consoles/

The author is 20 something, but he's analyzing the architecture of every single console from the NES to the PS4 (I guess the 70s consoles will be added at some point!).

There are lots of images of the inside of the machines, component "map" diagrams... An what's best is that he explains what each component produces in terms of graphics providing game examples, and what problems do some bottlenecks cause.

The articles are very comprehensive and easy to understand. I recomend checking them out.

Both CPCEC and CHIPNSFX got new patches, the first one tying up loose ends from the previous patch, the second one addressing the "unsigned char" scenario:

CPCEC 20240422 -- minor patch fixing bugs in the UTF-8 logic (string length, BOM header in text files) and the MSX2 V9938 (register 9 must set the screen geometry at once: "La Abadia del Crimen MSX2"), and modifying the combined X-masking and Y-masking dot matrix.
CHIPNSFX 20240422 -- minor patch adding a player size optimisation from Jean-Marie and fixing bugs in systems where "unsigned" is the default "char" setting, f.e. Raspberry Pi 400. Added GALIOUS1-2.CHP and GREMLIND.CHP.

That is mighty impressive!

I would love to see the actual car you are driving to give it that FZero vibe.
I was also thinking how nice it would be to not make it an F1 game, but a PowerDrift type of game instead so that it would have hills, dips and jumps. I'm guessing that a lot more memory would need to be freed up, so it would probably need to be a mode 1 game?

Mode 7, point & click adventures...

At this rate, the Amstrad CPC will be receiving a Tomb Raider 3D port by 2050 and a Shadow of the Colssus one by 2075.

The bits of this machine are duplicating every few decades!

MacGyver could do it himself with one hand.

You can do It on stiff wires. z80 wait line (Ready) and iorq pin 20

Quote from: robertix on 22:17, 22 April 24Thanks a lot. You're so right. My CPC is a german 6128 ... not plus :) I wasn't aware that the 6128 and the 6128 plus have a different pinlayout 🙈 But what is the exact layout? Pinning translation between different connectors (CPC-PL-9, Centronics 36pin, Floppy connector 34pin) ? ? ?

That was on the Wiki page that McArti already mentioned:

Your cable currently is configured like the first connector from the left but it needs to be like the second one.

Double check if they have aligned the red lane like in this picture or from the other side.
