It's been years since I have loaded a tape game on my CPC6128. I can't remember if I am supposed to be able to hear the tape file header sound through the CPC's speaker at start of loading? I know at least one of the 8 bit computers I had played the tape file header noises at start of loading.
I have the CPC's speaker volume turned up to full and I hear the beep when I press DEL key, but I hear not a peep when playing the tape using TapDancer app.

Something is happening because when I load a game through the phone connected to the tape cable, the normal tape loading screens appear... until the load fails with error. I so far haven't been able to successfully load anything from CDT image.

I'm wondering if the problem of game loading failures is connected with the fact that no sound can be heard through the CPC speaker?

OK. I managed to get Roland in the Caves and Spiky Harold to load now. Still no speaker sound though.

Crystal Castles won't load. Stops with blank screen and a byte of green pixels in bottom right corner then turns to a rolling out of sync purple/black screen -

OK.. apparently the error at end of Crystal Castles loading is only a problem with the CDT image from CPC Power site.
The CDT images from CPCRulez site load fine from the phone app.

Still interested to know if I am supposed to hear anything through the CPC's internal speaker as I am fairly sure I used to hear the file header at start of loading :/

Even with good CDT, to properly use Tapdancer you will have to set the volume level of your phone to a value close to the real hardware.  With a 464 you can hear the blocks loading so you just need a real tape and make a SAVE"TEST in basic prompt

I seem to get reliable results if the app volume is set to 11.

So there should not be anything of the tape header noise audible through the speakers of a CPC6128 during the start of loading?

I just could not remember what normally happens.

That's a good question; never used a 6128 with a tape myself, does it still make the loading sounds? I would think not, but...

empirically i would say the volume must be "low"

The tape sounds are definitely audible on my 6128. They're not very loud, unlike the 464, but if you can't hear them at all even with the cpc volume turned up then your input volume is probably way too low.

pelrun is right.

If you max out your 6128 you'll be able to hear a bit.
As for tapdancer, it works most of the times.
I used it for CPC, ZX and C64.
The volume levels are a pain in the ass to mess with.
Finally I just use wavs and mp3s to do that and tapdancer does the same... it fills your sd with big blocks of wavs.

Anyway on my Galaxy S4 I use the default sound player as all the other fail, even ZX81 games work as sinclair machines are a bit deaf...

On the Amstrad side you can load everything, even if you sing the data  ;D
