Hi guys, my partner posted something similar to this last year I think but I can't find it and she doesn't remember her username/email etc. I had an issue where my 464+ was working, then suddenly stopped. I sold it for parts and purchased a replacement on eBay as it was quite yellowed and I got a decent deal on a cleaner one.

This new unit was working perfectly until last week when it exhibited the exact same problem the previous one did. I connect it all up, flick the switch and the power comes on (tape can rewind etc) but there's no picture on the screen. There is something there, just a bit of interference or whatever but no actual picture. I've tried it on several TVs including the one it was working on previously, a couple of newer ones and a Sony CRT but it's the same result. I bought a new SCART/PSU from cool novelties on eBay with no luck and I've even tried two different copies of Burnin' Rubber but again, to no avail.

What could be causing this issue to happen again? Everything was very well packaged when moving so I really can't work it out.

Hi Klinty,
The old PSU may have killed both of them. The electronics are very sensitive to spikes in the voltage. If the old PSU was some cheap switched mode PSU then it may have been slowly killing the electronics while you were using it.

Hi Bryce, that sounds pretty likely then, I assume the insides could be fried even if the power light still comes on then? Is this something that can be repaired (certainly not by me as I have neither the tools or knowhow) or is it a case of just buying another and never using a cheap PSU again?

Bryce

Unfortunately not. The ASIC was a custom IC made specially for Amstrad and isn't possible to get without removing one from a working machine.
