Hello! Thus is the discussion page. Thought it'd be useful to have something of the sort. Just enter your comments or suggestions, but for new entries always use the headline feature ('== Headline =='). New entries must always be appended at the end of the page. And you can reply to comments by using a ':' or '::' or ':::' the deeper you go...

Dedicated forum?

Heya guys,

Since the MediaWiki's discussion capabilities are limited at best, what would you think if I installed a basic and simple BB system next to it? And, if so, any suggestions as to which BB? Gryzor 14:36, 13 September 2006 (CEST)

I think it's a good idea, but maybe we can ask the guys at CPCZone to setup a forum in the board system? Then we can use our already created accounts and you wouldn't have to do the administration =). --Octoate 15:01, 13 September 2006 (CEST)
Yeah, I thought about it, but I'm not sure if it'd be good for Malc - totally plugging another site. It'd be much easier for us anyway, but I feel it'd be better if we had a whole solution here :) Gryzor 17:09, 13 September 2006 (CEST)
Hello guys, as of today the Forum is open! :) Gryzor 09:05, 22 November 2006 (CET)

Categories

Please remember about adding proper category for new articles(I'm not without fault here), as it allows much easier cataloging of similar articles.--Torn 17:56, 3 September 2006 (CEST)

Sorry about that Torn!!...
Hehe, You don't have to. Categories are only for the readers' convinience, they aren't some kind of "Wiki-law".;) And even if the were, I'm in no position to enforce them. :P --Torn 14:39, 4 September 2006 (CEST)
I always forget to add the categories in the initial article and have to edit it again, but I think it's quite important to have them. -- Prodatron 19:11, 4 September 2006 (CEST)

Why cant i upload MP3 files

Seems i cant upload MP3 files.. I want to add some speech examples of the SPO256 and MEA8000 chips!

Yeah, and also PNG, ZIP and others. The problem is known already, and Gryzor is working on it...--Torn 14:39, 4 September 2006 (CEST)
so is he? Havent heard anything about the problem again. so i thought it was fixed? Hey.. Gryzor.. where is the problem? 81.90.35.80
Unfortunately I'm stuck. PDF works ok, but despite my efforts to tweak the config files for the wiki, it still refuses to allow other types... And the MediaWiki documentation is not exactly examplary... Btw, please do use a User ID! Gryzor 13:48, 2 October 2006 (CEST)
Edit LocalSettings.php in your wiki root directory. At line 88 (or thereabouts), insert:
$wgFileExtensions[]='mp3';
$wgFileExtensions[]='dsk';
$wgFileExtensions[]='png';
$wgFileExtensions[]='zip';
and so on. Works fine on another wiki I help administer. (PHP still sucks though ;) .) --ChaRleyTroniC 19:31, 2 October 2006 (CEST)
Ohhh darn, it worked!!!!! All this time I had been trying to work with the array thingy as described in the documentation, I had never seen the solution you suggested (and, unfortunately, I totally missed your comment for about a month and a half!!!). Thanks - all's well now :) Gryzor 15:47, 17 November 2006 (CET)
Nevermind, those WWW accelerators, with their's caching techniques sucks... At least sometimes ;)--Torn 16:07, 17 November 2006 (CET)
Hi There somehow i still cant upload other filetypes than .jpg. files... What am i doing wrong????? --Ygdrazil 13:06, 20 November 2006 (CET)

The complete I/O map for the CPC

How do people think about making a complete list of what devices is using which addresses in the I/O map? --Ygdrazil 15:22, 4 September 2006 (CEST)

Great idea! --Octoate 15:34, 4 September 2006 (CEST)
Indeed, this would be extremely useful. This is, how it looks for the MSX: Portar MSX Tech Doc. But a short overview would be fine for the beginning. I can make a first step and paste TFMs I/O list here. -- Prodatron 16:18, 4 September 2006 (CEST)

Category "Stub"

Please put every article, which is not finished and contains text like "please add more infos here" or something like this, into the category "Stub", so that other people, who may know more, can find these articles and extend them. The problem is, that not all "short pages" are such stubs, and so it would be difficult to find unfinished articles without the category. -- Prodatron 17:52, 5 September 2006 (CEST)

Multi lingual

Maybe we should introduce a category for each contry... so that every article is member of a cataory where there are information in a given language! What do you think?

Some time ago we decided not to introduce multi lingual support, as this would split up our forces too much. So only english articles should be accepted. Even with only one language there is still too much to do ;-) -- Prodatron 20:20, 7 September 2006 (CEST)

Bajtek

Oh my, I've really fuckup something! See: Talk:Bajtek and please advise my what to do now, as now even article won't show-up...--Torn 14:36, 6 September 2006 (CEST)

OK, problem solved. Thanks goes to the Ygdrazil, who made a Copy and allowed me to experiment with recovering the orginal article. Now, the Bajtek Copy should be deleted and I can re-upload the picture(only this time, much much smaller ;P).--Torn 14:54, 6 September 2006 (CEST)

Utility to make animated GIFs?

Does anyone of you guys know a nice utility(or another way) for making animated GIFs? --Ygdrazil 10:47, 7 September 2006 (CEST)

Demos online

BACK FROM HOLIDAY! Hi everybody.. Nice to see so much activity the last two weeks... wow we are now the largest 8bit wiki! And I hope it will stay this way! I am in the process of scanning my remaining manuals(about 12)..

I have talked with Ygdrazil about putting all known demos on wiki as stubs complete with pictures etc... Any oppinion/thoughts in doing so?--CPCLER 13:55, 11 September 2006 (CEST)

What about adding the files also as DSK-Files? As there ist enough webspace around it will be great to find the demos as downloadable files directly within the article. Kangaroo MusiQue of HJT 11:28, 24 September 2006 (CEST)

Or something like SWF-Movies? Like Youtube? So we can watch the CPC-Demos in the wiki :-)

Better... user JEMU to play them directly in the Wiki. Maybe we can add a template which automatically inserts the JEMU applet and plays the dedicated DSK image of the demo. I guess that this would be really great! --Octoate 11:17, 29 September 2006 (CEST)
Hmmm.. DSK files online excelent idea.. but I cant upload dsk files to the wiki! --Ygdrazil 11:47, 29 September 2006 (CEST)
Hi, A JEMU feature would be real cool. Many demos on eg. in the LIP6 library, is destributed as files and not as a DSK image - so i have transfered many demos into DSK images. And i am now ready to upload the relevant files to this wiki, but somehow the upload script refuses to accept DSK images.. and even ZIP(or RAR) files!????? Howcome? --Ygdrazil 08:43, 2 October 2006 (CEST)

MY CORRUPT HiSoft C Article

Hi someone - Please erase the old HiSoft C article so i can make the page again! And the time make it right --Ygdrazil 18:37, 16 November 2006 (CET)

Done. :D Old (corrupted) page was moved to Corrupted HiSoft C for deletion, which should be deleted, and HiSoft C can be edited again...--Torn 19:11, 16 November 2006 (CET)
