One magazine presented a series of 3 articles describing how to upgrade a 464plus to a 6128plus (including how to add a tape socket to a 6128plus).
I was wondering if anyone here upgraded their 464plus to 128k ram, it is apparently quite easy and whether the components are still available.

The magazine was Amstrad Action.
I never tried the upgrades so I can't say if they were easy or if the parts are still around sorry.

The Cranium did a nice mod. He took a GX4000 and made a 6128 Plus out of it, it's nice to have the GX4000 video output.

The main problem is that the GX4000 motherboard is so reduced that you have to solder a lot of additionnal stuff on it... No extension port, no Disk/tape drives, no keyboard...this is a lot of stuff to put properly.

Also I'ver heard a lot of issues with GX4000 hardware... not that solid as it seems, many broke down naturally.

@pentagon :
Ok, so you added the Diskdrive management chips on the motherboard (empty slots are there) or are those inside the external Diskdrives unit ?
Also did you add the +64K internally ? or is it an extension memory upgrade ?

The fact Amstrad used the exact same motherboard is great, the fact both configs were missing parts is not great...

And this motherboard could have used some internal additionnal memory chip slots IMO, just like the Atari STE which used memory modules (memory sticks) socket... instead of directly solder the RAMchips
Perhaps such modding could be achieved too... :P

But hey, we know allan Sugar was cheap on chips. :'(

Also, the 464 sems to have a 2nd tape drive external socket, you could have perhaps put a CD drive on this ?
(but a MP3 is fine too.)

Is it a Mode0 overscan picture ?

Hello,

yes it's an internal Memory expansion, i soldered that (just 5 Minutes of work). The Disc Controller is a standard DDI-1 Controller without a rom and a cut pin (i dont have the internal parts to solder it). The Drives are Amiga Drives (they are simply the best) and the picture is an overscan CPC PLUS Mode 0 picture.

Kindly regards

The picture looks really good! Unbelieveable that it has the usual Mode 0 resolution. You're using the right monitor.
