Because i don't like the white case of the plus fammily i want to change this.
Is there a way to paint the case in grey ?
Or other ways ? Cover folie ?

Bryce

Is it yellowed or full of scratches? Otherwise it would be a shame to paint it.

Bryce.

radu14m

Yes..a few from both  >:(

I just used hobbiest spray paints from my local DIY outlet to do my US Snes in Famicon colours a few years back, then applied a lacquer and it's not chipped or flaked at all.

It would be a shame to spray a relatively rare machine though, especially as there is retr0brighting to make it white again, unless of course you wanted to turn it into a work of art http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/File:6128plus_fr_en_kanga.jpg :)

radu14m

thanks, I just want to cover all the scratches and yellowing.
The spray paint will not be wipe out after a certain time ?
What do you thing about using a carbon Foil as these:

ofcourse, a decent colour :)

Bryce

Carbon foil isn't suitable for all the edges / embossed text / grills on a CPC. spray paint is much better. Make sure you sand the surface first, then spray an undercoat/primer and when that's dry you can spray the colour. When the colour has set you can touch it up or if it's ok you can then add a final varnish or spray plastic layer. The varnish protects it from getting chipped too easily.

Isn't the carbon fiber look very noughties, I thought it was all Piano or Matt black these days???
Or am I showing my age by not knowing?
How about steampunking it?  ;D

Bryce

It's not carbon fibre look. The plastic coating is made of carbon, ie the name "Carbon Foil", the colour could be any, such as the questionable blue on the Porsche above.

Oh right, I've never seen it before.. I must get back to civilization at some point

I found those painted 6128plus :)

Are those CPC here in forum ?

Munchausen

I'm afraid I really don't like the black colouring above. Perhaps if you were to make it "6128 grey" in colour it would be better though...

TotO

Yes, the CPC "anthracite" colour will look better... If the job is well done.
Because, most of the custom paint cases seen on internet (this too) are just awful.

A last tip:
If you don't like the 6128 Plus colour, sell it and by an other computer.

I like better the color of my 6128, non plus :)
therefore I was curios to see some modded 6128plus, for sure that some users from this forum have such cpc's.

Is the use of a primer really required? Apart from filling some scratches (which could be achieved with a second hand of spraying) I would say no?

Bryce

I'd recommend lightly sanding the case first and using primer. Without primer the paint tends to flake off pretty quickly. I also recommend a coat of clear varnish on top too, to avoid scratches.

Yeah, I sanded, primed and then clear coated my Snes 2 or 3 years ago now and even being on my desk and having the odd iPod dropped on it, the paints not scratched, chipped or peeled. Would it not look strange with the white buttons if you went a dark colour?

A nice gloss finish may also look nice? [attach=2]

Bryce

Very nice paint job, very even and no oranging or spots. Looks almost like a sports car :)

I should have mentioned it was an image I found on the net  :-[ I wouldn't mind trying it myself, possibly on a battered old CPC 464  :D

I agree, spray paint is a better option if done correctly. The vinyl wrap material doesn't stand up too well to hands on use, it can scratch and wear quite easily. I vinyl wrapped one of my cars a couple of years back and I think I made a 90% professional looking job of it based on people's comments, and the overall look is pretty impressive.

The issue is that you really have to treat the surface with kit gloves. You can only use certain types of wax or detergents on it. Repeated contact with hands starts to lift the colour away so it wouldn't make a good choice for a computer case like the 464 plus unless you wanted to use it as an ornament. A games console might be a better target for vinyl wrapping as you don't tend to have to interact with it as much you would with a CPC.

Man! That is one fine looking paint job! Did you have to do a lot of polishing to achieve that standard of finish or was it all down to spraying technique? I wish I was that talented with spray paint as I wouldn't have had to resort to vinyl wrap for my car!

He stated above that that's NOT his console, it's a picture of someone elses that he found on the interwebs.

Ah lol! That will teach me to try and read when I'm half asleep still, I guess I was distracted by the mesmerising shine on the n64 :-)
