hi guys great site! ;D  do anyone know if its at all possible to somehow hook up a amstrad fd-1 disk drive to a laptop to transfer disk images from the internet to real 3" disk? i am thinking may be usb somehow? or is it possible to rip out the 3" drive from the fd-1 and fit a 3.5" pc floppy drive? would it be a straight fit (a part from the size diffrance) i have the dd-1 interface, if so what floppy should i be looking for?
also do anyone have a tidy looking 6128 for sale in the uk or a dktronics 64k ram extension for a 464, no such luck on ebay  :'(  payment by paypal of course  ;D

Welcome to the forum.

Have a look in the Wiki for schematics on how to connect a 3.5" drive to your CPC.
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/3%C2%BD%22_%26_5%C2%BC%22_Disk_Drives

You can also buy these cables on eBay, and other places. (I'm sure other members will post the links soon).

Personally I made my own cable for my CPC464.

Hello amstardman (amstard? Maybe you'd want me to change your name? :D ),

There used to be a guy on ebay that made serial cables for your CPC to communicate with your PC, but that was about it. I haven't seen any other ready-made cables... maybe you'd be lucky to find a 3.5" drive for your CPC, although it'd cost a pretty penny (upwards of €50 probably...). Sorry!

Amstradman

hi if u could change my name that would be great i was in a hurry when i joined the other day, i dont spouse u got the sellers ebay user id? so i could email him and ask if he could do a one off cable? its a shame there is no real easy way to get connected, all through i like the ideal of writing my own 3" disk better.
y is it everytime i come up to this site my avg anti virus detects a threat??

Gryzor

Unfortunately I haven't seen the seller for a while, and I don't remember his name... He was from eastern Europe, but that's about it :(

Changed your name alright :)

As for the virus... you mean this here site? CPCWiki.com??!!! What exactly does it say????????

tony

I purchased a PC<-->CPC cable from a Polish guy a couple of years ago... he was always selling them on eBay (although I haven't seen his offerings online for quite some time).  The PC side connected to a parallel port and the CPC to the printer port.  It works rather well and has been in use for a couple of years now  8)
I still have the packaging, here's the details from it:
jurek@rembertow.netmob: +48 5-7 754 91-    (replace - with 0's)
Drop him an email and see if it bounces, if not, you never know, he might have a cable on the shelf ready to send to you!  ;)

Gryzor

Yup - that's him alright...

How about a 464 Plus with 20 games and colour monitor for £40... fully tested and working. Great little machine and a good selection of games. Postage would be around £20 but I'd have to check on the weight. If you're local to Birmingham, you could pick it up.

Now that's a bargain... :D

Should I open an ads sub-forum?

It'd be much better to buy and sell within the forum... it's no secret how much I hate ebay these days. And I don't wanna sell to people that'll just buy it to sell it on for even more cash, ripping off the buyer with ridiculous prices. Needs to go to a proper home. It'd be also great if people could upload pics from their PC... showing the items in detail.

Well you can always upload pics here as attachments anyway...

But I don't know if there are that many items that could go on trade/sale here? Maybe if more asked for it...
