Hi,

I made a floppy cable for my 464 Plus (converted to 6128).
I can "cat" and see the files on disk but when I try to run something I get a "Disc Missing" error.

I tried two different drives

  • MITSUMI D63119
  • NEC FD1231H
Do I miss something?

Maybe a picture of your cable?

Hi VincentGR

A Note I found May be of some help

Amstrad Floppy NEC FD1231H
Possibly Suitable to Modify for AMSTRAD CPC
Just remove the blob from DC and short out RDY
This provides the Ready signal required on Pin 34.
Originally configured as drive 1 (One)
Or have a look at the Photo and only do the Pin 34 Mod it MAY work ?

@Audronic I did that once for a drive that I used for my Amiga but can't remember if I did the same with another for my 6128  >:(
Anyway that drive is used and it's in a box with switches that I don't want to open again.

I will try it tomorrow.
Thank you.

@robcfg Here you go

Unfortunately my NEC drive is a different revision than this.
It has only 52 pins on the main chip and another pcb layout.

The NEC FD1231H floppy drive that I own also has a 52-pin chip. Does anyone know how to do it in this case?
I have found a page with the steps to use it on an MSX but I don't know if it will work for Amstrad

I had this problem recently - CAT but no joy when trying to Run a program and @Bryce fixed it for me - the drives I'm using had no READY signal so maybe it is in that area the problem lies?

Please NEVER short the Ready Signal!!! CP/M Plus, SymbOS, FutureOS and other advanced DISC I/O will NOT work properly any longer!

HI I'm trying to modify the NEC 1231H that I have to put it as a second unit in 6128. I followed in the steps of the Wiki:
  http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Modify_PC_floppy_drives#NEC_FDH1231H
it says here:
"NEC FDH1231H
Join PIN1 on the flat cable connector with test point 15 (TP15), located under the black sticker.
Break the connection between PIN1 and the small chip nearby."

I did the first step: "Join PIN1 of flat cable with TP15" and the drive shows the directory but does not detect when the disk is extracted.
I don't quite understand when he says "Break the connection between PIN1 and the small chip nearby."

Does it refer to flat cable PIN1 or disk drive connection PIN1?
I don't see any small chips around.

Any idea?
Thanks in advance
