Hi all,

I have an old HXC device made by Zaxon, which works fine generally, but it doesn't have a screen so am thinking of looking for a better device...
The criteria I would like the device to meet are as follows:

  • Works with CPC6128 (ie don't need DDI1 style interface)
  • Has a screen to aid disk image navigation
  • External device (I want to retain built-in floppy drive)
  • Cased if possible
  • Doesn't spin internal drive motor constantly (do they all do that?)
I was considering this one by Lotharek:https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=32

I know that ticks most of the boxes...but does anyone know if the drive motor spinning thing is an issue with this device (or all HXC devices), or just the Zaxon one? (I know I can disconnect the 12v to prevent this but would rather not have to).

Also interested in recommendations from people that have HXC's.

Many thanks!

Targhan

I have two Lothareks. The SDCard (with a two-line LCD screen) and the USB ones. Both external, in their little case. Very glad of both of them.
As for the internal drive spin, this is, to my knowledge, mandatory, because you can't power up one drive specifically. The FDC "motor ON/OFF" instruction targets all the drives.

But should it only spin the drive motor when accessing a disk? As it spins continuously (all the time) with the Zaxon HXC plugged in.
Many thanks for your reply!

Yes indeed, it should only turn the drive(s) on when accessing one of them. I have no idea what is wrong with your set-up though, sorry :).

Ok great. I know it is 'normal' with the Zaxon device, just wasn't sure if all the other HXC devices are the same...sounds like no!

Thanks again!
