Has anybody confirmed whether the checkmate monitors work with CPC/pluses as well as possibly the VGA with v9990?

It's essentially just a monitor in a custom case with plug-in converters, so yes it would work, but only as good as any other decent TFT screen with a good converter behind it. So CRTC tricks such as changing values half way through a frame or the tricks used to smoothen scrolling etc would not work. It still samples an entire screen and sends it to the display in one go, making almost all "analogue tricks" impossible.

Having my last crt cpc monitor recently die, I need to look for something. Not yet sure what though. An lcd that does 15.6khz could be a good thing too though.

The LCD also has to accept Composite Sync, otherwise you will need a sync splitter. E.g. the famous NEC 1970 won't work out of the box with the CPC.

One thing to consider (imho) is that even 17" LCDs are much bigger than the 14". That's a different experience. A good size are 15" LCD TV sets which were/are popular for camping. At least the TV sets sold in Europe usually have SCART and will accept the CPC signal.

Last but not least, you could add a scan converter to your collection. An overview is available on the Wiki: https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/LCD_monitor_and_LCD_TV_Solution_(RGB)#Scan_converters

The Pico based converter is (at least to my knowledge) the only available converter that supports soft scrolling tricks like in Relentless.

If you wanna use a modern flat panel either go with the pico based RGBtoHDMI converter (it's available on Sellmyretro) or get yourself a 15Khz LED monitor such as BenQ BL912 (cheaply available on forums and marketplaces time to time). I've both but none of them is 100% compatible with fringe CRTC tricks.
Actually not all CRTs are 100% compatible with such tricks either. Both my Sony PVM and Commodore 1984S suck with Relentless.
A cheap Amstrad CTM644 on the other hand, still remains the best bulletproof solution.
If you have enough Buckazoid and available room, collect them all :P
M'enfin!

My current lcd has scart, but I was hoping something g like this one can be more crt-like in behaviour

Besides not being in colour is a CM12 actually worth getting for Plus use?

You mean the MM12?

As a collector, maybe yes. For actual use I would say it's pretty much pointless to use a monochrome screen for a 4096 colour computer if the monitor already struggles with a 27 colour palette.

Thanks, for me being in Australia its a $300 black and white monitor. Maybe I will hold off a bit.
